Right, where’s that hidden camera?
By: Steven | November 26th, 2007You all know by now, thanks to Marco and Martha…Colantuono’s been sacked by the Big Man. Earlier today, I already felt something strange in the air, and that why I warned everyone: ‘And the first one to mention Capello or Guidolin gets shot.’
Well, in a sudden case of loss of brain functions, Zamparini announced Guidolin as the ‘new’ coach. Let’s see: Guidolin left for Monaco 2 years ago after a fantastic season, sucked at Monaco, started great last years, started sucking without Amauri, got the boot, returned and won the last 3 games. Am I happy? Meh. Dunno. I loved the guy, but he stayed on to long last year. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, and kickin’ some Catanese ass would be a great start. Good luck Francesco, four times and then some.

Un-freaking-believable. But I totally love it — who knows, maybe he’ll be a hero for a little while!

Bentornato Guidolin…
But we will see if he’s the coach from the first half of last season or the second half of last season…
Let’s hope for the former.
…Forza Palermo!

we need to spend biggggggg money in January im saying we pretty much need a whole new midfield and a new reserve goalie, even if we look to france or england

watching that game made me sick to my stomach i never want that to happen again it made feel ashamed to be a palermo fan i got so much shit from all my friends i couldnt even say anything but blame it on the team

Let’s be logical about this. Here’s what I mean:
1. We knew Colantuano was on his way out
2. If anybody can come in and not have to start
from scratch, it’s Guidolin. He knows the players
and vice versa.
3. Long term, he’s not the answer, obviously. But I
think he can jump start us. Its not January yet, we
can turn it around.
4. Let’s hope Zampa wants to splash a little cash in Jan.
window. Vargas and Caliao would be nice. (oh, and a
whole new midfield!!)Posted from

Oh, and one more thing..Its funny how Zampa always gets bashed for being crazy and whatever.
And granted, he may say stupid stuff occasionally, but I love his passion for Palermo during his term as president. He is a fan at heart, and has the same expectations we do. Bringing in Guido saves the season without tossing it to the trash heap. Bravo Zampa!! The Mark Cuban of Serie A!!

KJ couldn’t agree more with both posts. Guidolin knows almost all of the players, and last season when Amauri was healthy things were just clicking really nicely.
As far as Zampa…there’s not another owner I want to have. Unlike Berlusconi and Moratti he actually wants to buy players that fit into the system and not just big names…he also loves investing in youth players. Zampa is here long term I believe, he may be from the North but to me he is Sicilian through and through!

We should try to get Manuel Fernandes from Valencia. Koeman hates him and he hasn’t been playing great lately because he hasn’t gotten enough starts and Valencia are stacked in the midfield. Caserta-Fernandes w/Simplicio a little higher in the midfield and we immediately go from shit to quality. I keep hearing things about Mavuba from Villareal as well. Both of them ooze class, but aren’t being given a fair shake from their respective managers.
To be honest Caserta-Simplicio are awesome. Colantuono was just trying to play Simplicio further back like a Pirlo type player, and he’s not that player at all. He’s more like Deco who plays further up and can hold the ball or make runs into the box. Guana/Diana should be purely emergency. Migliaccio is quality…we just need to find that other midfielder who can play a little deeper…

Maybe it’s time for us to sell high on Cavani…I like the way he plays as his style is similar to mine but as long as Amauri, Brienza and Miccoli are here he’s just not gonna get much time. I think Zampa refused over 10 million for him last summer, so if we can get some dough for him maybe we can lure that elusive star center midfielder. I know I’m rambling here but I’m pretty excited at the idea of Guidolin turning things around…hopefully he can give us a shot in the arm.
P.S. If Calaio or another young striker comes, I think Cavani may go.

KJ, i agree on the Zampa-bashing. Everyone thinks he’s got shit for brains, but he lead the team to a European spot EVERY SINGLE SEASON since we returned to A.
Ricci, i think Fernandes might be a great addition, but Mavuba might be out of reach. Arsenal was after him this summer.

Great post about Zampa. I hate all these people who continually trash him when he speaks his mind. He has a fiery passion unlike no other. And besides, he’s right alot of the time. Especially, when he talks about the media coverage and how bad the bias is…
As for the transfer window, let’s not forget about other names that had been circling around prior. Young CAM’s in Renato Augusto and Lulinha. They’re both young and are FULL of talent. Granted, we’d still need some sort of veteran but I honestly would love to see one of the two make their way over to Sicily come January. Without having to start them right away, we could have Simplicio fill that position solely…and then rely on a defensive midfielder.
In any case, the beauty of Guidolin is not only does he know Palermo and its players, he also brings a STYLE OF PLAY to this squad so we can see some continuity.
And can somebody show Agliardi the door? I can’t believe there was a rumor (with some truth of it) floating around earlier in the summer about a switch of Amelia & Agliardi + cash. MAN, we should’ve jumped on that…

I think after that game Agliardi’s career in Serie A might be over. The only worse performance I could think of in recent memory was Muslera from Lazio letting in 5 softies against Milan. Agliardi + Cash for Amelia is looking like steal of the century right about now.
Renato Augusto is a hell of a player. He would fit in well with the few Brazilians we have. I think the key to Palermo is getting some more players. We have about 15 players who are capable of playing in Serie A and the rest are Serie B material. But those 15 or so are uber talented. We just need to start filling out our squad.

I forgot to mention another name that has been floating around out there…the young defender Breno. Can we finally get rid of Capuano and replace Pisano please? I still am at a loss as to how Rinaudo did not see action on Sunday.

I think Colantuono was afraid of Leandro’s skin condition. About Lulinha, a few weeks ago I was still excited, but i’ve seen a few matches of his and it might be another Cavani-story.

I think Fiorentina sealed up Breno didn’t they? He had some kind of buyout clause agreement and I think Sao Paulo has already said they will sell him to the Viola…correct me if I’m wrong but I did read that a number of places. I think another Brazilian, Kleber would be the perfect fit at left back. But I’m in agreement with Lorenzo…send Capuano to Serie C1 and I guess keep Pisano for emergencies.
I play with a bunch of Brazilian kids friday night pickup and they keep telling me Lulinha is wayyyyy overrated. Renato Augusto however…he’s the business.

Renato Augusto, lets get him to palermo asap that kids got talent galore hes quick and connects passes, well he would be top of the line for our midfield. and goalie wise idk if amelia is as good as everybody think. his season has been 50/50 i no hes italys number 2 but all he plays like is a nu,ber 2 goalie im saying we should by a quality well playing goalie because god knows (sorry to say) jimmy dont got much time left.
