Review: Worthless Fuck-Ups versus Siena

By: Steven | January 20th, 2008

Dear fellow Palermitani,

I have had enough. Another loss against a team’s that worth nothing more than a Serie B-seat next year, another lousy performance, another drop down the table. I don’t wanna spend my time on reviewing this shit today, especially after Martha’s fine work.

Palermo were all over Siena in the wake of the goal, but the reflexes of Alex Manninger in goal and the willingness of everyone in the Siena defense to hurl themselves in front of the ball kept it out somehow. And, barely five minutes later, Siena somehow went in front, thanks to the combined efforts of Massimo Maccarone and Palermo’s increasingly dodgy defense. No one had a chance to celebrate or even breathe, though, because the chaos continued down at the other end, and the Rosanero were awarded a penalty very reminiscent of the one Julio Cruz won against Siena last week, except without the high boot — there was a collision in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot. Fabrizio Miccoli, who had a hand in virtually everything Palermo did in the first half, sent Manninger the wrong way but put the shot off the bar.

Well yeah, that’s so typical for us this year. We score one lucky goal, and then we think it’s all gonna go easy from there on. Barzagli and his Boys decide to take it easy, and suddenly there’s a black and white armada, making us start from scratch again. Good job, Azzurri-fuck up. Miccoli then decides to do an Amauri and miss an important PK.

Andrea Barzagli (Who has been average at best in every Palermo match I’ve seen this season, save the Napoli one — what is going on with him?)

I’ll tell you what’s going on with him. He’s so focused on getting that big transfer, getting a Donidonadina-call up and trying not to burst out in tears every time the Curva decides on picking on him that he can’t focus on playing football. He’s supposed to be the leader of our defense, but I’m starting to believe that his bad calls are taking away the confidence of all of the defensive players. Pick yourself up, or start walking.

Doubtless fearing for his job (again), Francesco Guidolin made two changes at half, including throwing on young Edison Cavani for Fabio Simplicio.

Zampa should’ve never rehired Guido. And now we can’t fire him without getting laughed at by all of Serie A. Oh, wait…we don’t need to fire him to be laughed at by all of Serie A. What the hell are you thinking when you decide to take Simplicio off, and leave Guana on. Do Baldy and Guido have some kind of a secret love-affair? I mean, taking off the person that’s carrying your entire midfield doesn’t show a lot of coaching skill. And then he even takes Cassani of for ShitPants, the man who’s thanking God every single day that he’s still in Serie A, and not yet shipped out to Pescara or some other Lucchese.

That calm was wasted, though, when Maccarone handled the ball on Palermo’s millionth free kick of the half, and the referee had no choice but to award Palermo a penalty. Miccoli stepped up again and, after a lot of dithering, pushed the ball past Manninger, and the home side were level in the 76th minute. Again, though, there was no let-up from Siena, and they went the other way and were back ahead within two minutes.

See the comments on Paragraph 1. See what I mean?

And, to make matters worse, they almost went down 4-2 thanks to a wonderful individual effort by Forestieri, who left Barzagli for dead only to have his shot tipped over by Fontana.

And again, Paragraph 1.

Zampa ain’t gonna like this.

I’m hoping for it. I expect a new coach within the next one to three weeks, the benching of Capuano, Barzagli, Guana and Capuano and a lot of spending money.

Line-ups:

Palermo: Fontana; Cassani (Capuano 46), Biava, Barzagli, Zaccardo; Guana (Tedesco 72), Migliaccio, Simplicio (Cavani 46); Caserta, Miccoli; Amauri

Siena: Manninger; Rossettini, Portanova, Loria, De Ceglie (Rossi 22); Jarolim, Codrea, Vergassola; Locatelli (Rossi 22); Forestieri (Ficagna 90), Maccarone

Ref: Dondarini

Goals

04′ 1-0 Amauri
05′ 1-1 Locatelli
10′ 1-2 Maccarone
76′ 2-2 Miccoli
78′ 2-3 Loria

Standings

We’re 8th, with Milan one point behind and 3 games less. 9 points away from Champions League. You do the math.

I’ll put up a video later.

Let Barzagli go to Juve and give Zaccardo the armband. Biava is a joke, ball watching on 2 of those goals…Cassani actually did some decent things including the cross for the Amauri goal, and he gets taken out. Guana must be Guidolin’s younger brother because there’s no reason why he should be playing. Literally the slowest, worst player on the field.

There is something inherently wrong with this team. This is the time when the team should be playing at it’s peak. By now we should have a tight unit. However, we have a gravely unorganised team with particular troubles in the defence.

Ultimately, Zampa has to shoulder the blame for such a lack of cohesion. It all seems to be falling apart.

I’m just befuddled by Barzagli — if he wants this Big!Transfer, why doesn’t he play like it? Aren’t players in contract years, or looking to leave, supposed to play like gods? He commits awful fouls, and was beaten at least twice by a kid who’s barely 18. I’ve said it before here and you guys know far more than I about Palermo, but I just do not get why he keeps the armband.

i really think Zamp needs to start spending especially in the defence. im so sick of lossing the crap games we should win.
but im praying to god we could at least pull a draw with roma next week i hate those scumbags if we pick it up and go in with the trident we have a chance put Rinado and Jankovic in we can deff have chance.

Steven…please don’t put the video up. Thanks.

Another thing that bugs me is the 2 missed penalties we’ve had that have cost us serious points…

Nonetheless, they need to wake up. NOW!

No offence to Miccoli and Amauri, but from what I’ve seen neither of them seems that sharp pk shooter. Couldn’t have missed good ol’ Corini more.

Yeah, if we get trashed by those deluded giallorossimerde as well, I’d feel like disowning the team.
