Review: Succi’s Strike Saves Suckers

By: Steven | November 24th, 2008

It’s pretty difficult to say anything about yesterday’s match, because it’s hard to say something if you have already said it all after the Torino and Lecce-games. I think Davide Ballardini’s quote says a lot:

It just wasn’t us in the first half.

No, really? Going 1-0 down to Bologna, the second worst team in Serie A, is a disgrace. Keeping the scoreline that way would’ve been a humiliation. Luckily, in the end we could rely on our superstar from Ravenna. After 10 shots that can only go down as terrible misses, Succi finally equalized. Good for us, and I’ll grand him the honour of not tearing him to shreds once more. But we all have to realize that bringing in Succi and Cavani was a decision made by fear. Losing Bologna would have made Ballardini’s job a living hell with Zamparini on his way to Palermo. So what he did was take out a midfielder (the sketchy Migliaccio) and a striker that hadn’t touched a single ball all game (Budan, or maybe his handicapped, untalented brother) and replace them with two strikers that are also yet to prove themselves. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a fine example of panic on the bench.

It was hard to draw conclusions right after the game as we didn’t get a good broadcast, but I saw the game in replay afterwards. So here are my two cents.

What I Liked:

Everything, and I do mean everything, goes trough Miccoli. He works his ass off (and complains a lot), and without him we would even be further down the table.

Marco finally showed his talents. He looked like a soccer mom (thanks for making my day, Kat), but luckily he landed on the same amount of balls than your average soccer mom.

Moris is Palermo. He plays fantastic, breathes a natural cool and he’s becoming the absolute leader of this team and te favourite of the fans.

What I Didn’t Like:

Ciro Capuano. We all knew he wasn’t worth his place on the team, the critics knew it, and I sure hope Ballardini now knows it too.

Igor Budan. Dude, really? What was that?

Lanza’s five minutes. Nobody can develop into a good player with only five minutes a week.

Pagelle:

Amelia 6,5: Surprised on the goal, did fantastic for the rest.
Cassani 6,5: Went down with the rest in the first half, showed his real identity later on in the game.
Kjaer 5,5: Did well, but had a lot of problems with the experienced Di Vaio
Carrozzieri 7: Big man on Campus.
Capuano 2: Great assist on the Bologna-goal. Should be a) shot, b) given away free as practice doll for young camorristi or c) assraped and skullfucked by Moris, Mr. T and the tubby dude in the NY Giants defensive line.
Lanzafame s.v.
Migliaccio 5: Not good.
Cavani 6: Did well, but needs to learn how to score goals.
Liverani 6: Did surprisingly mediocre, but is too old. And to ugly.
Nocerino 5.: Was lucky that Budan and Capuano were worse, otherwise would’ve been today’s Androberto.
Simplicio 5,5: Not his usual self.
Budan 4: That’s what you get for giving him a starting spot…
Succi 6,5: One disallowed goal and one allowed. Still hate him, but he deserves the 6.5 as game winner.
Miccoli 6,5: Constant danger, the true leader of the team.
All. Ballardini 6: Put out the big bluff during half time, but it worked. -0.5 for fielding Capuano.

Facts:

Bologna – Palermo : 1-1
20’ Di Vaio 1-0
93’ Succi 1-1

Bologna: Antonioli; Zenoni, Terzi, Moras (Britos 64), Lanna; Mingazzini, Mudingayi; Marchini (Rodriguez 77), Valiani, Bombardini (Cesar 46); Di Vaio

Palermo: Amelia; Cassani, Carrozzieri, Kjaer, Capuano (Lanzafame 87), Nocerino, Liverani, Migliaccio (Succi 46); Simplicio; Budan (Cavani 46), Miccoli

lol “(Budan, or maybe his handicapped, untalented brother)” too true … The thing is if you start him finally after all these months give him atleast 60 mins, Ballardini claims he was near 100 % fitness .. if this is the case we may as well sell him in january to because he is still tubby and slow. He had a chance to score early on and took like 50 touches insted of shooting, I hoped he would progress during the game but he was gone at half time.

I think it was pretty much a general consensus that Capuano was goign to be the steaming pile of merda he showed he infact was. We should just pay up his contract and release him allthough surprisingly there are teams that want to buy him. Why not use one of our youth left backs?

I also agree yeah Succi scored and it saved our ass but he was guilty of missing 2 other easy chances, Antonioli was good but a striker should bury those chances no problem.

On migs he isnt really there to be a good passer (ths lets him down alot) He is there basically to run up and down and kick people and for me he is the best player in our squad to do that .. taking him out so early I didint understand.

Lanzafame getting shit no time is really getting on my nerves now .. its so pointless … if Budan and Succi can get starts this season then so should Lanzafame.

Against Milan I think Liverani needs to be dropped or their attacking mids will rip us to shreds. Nocerino/Migs need to be in there to kick ronaldhinos buck teeth into place and do all the chasing. Bresciano should return because he plays good against Milan.

Kaka is suspended and Milan play portsmouth away on thursday in uefa cup so this could be a very good time to play them. All dependign on which one of palermos personality turn up next week.

    Forza Aquile.

I agree on the dropping Liverani-comment, but only if Noce and Simplico step up to the game. If they play like they did yesterday, it won’t even matter if Liverani is on the field or not.

    You’re welcome Steven. :)

My suggestions for the anti-Milan lineup:
Bovo, Kjaer, Moris, Cassani; Balza, Nocerino, Simplicio; Miccoli, Succi, Cavani

I meant to put Simplicio in the central mid.
Or we could try a 442 with Miggy and Simplicio in the center, and Nocerino on the far out.

I would like a 4-4-2, I believe this is the best way to stop Milan without Kaka. They will need to use width to get past us as our center backs are simply too strong for their strikers/attacking mids. 4-4-2 is the best way to ensure we stay in the game.

Liverani won’t get dropped though and we will still see the 4-3-1-2, I’m just not sure who plays in the 3 with Liverani and Nocerino.

Nocerino and Liverani are stylistically difficult to coexist. Nocerino tends to perform better in the deep central midfield without having to share that zone with a lazy Arab. See Palermo-Chievo. A 4132 with Ozzy/Balza and Lanza flanking Simplicio, and Nocerino infront of the backline could work too.

Agree 100%. To ask Nocerino to play a regular game and also to babysit the Arab is ridiculous. No player in the world can do that. He is being asked to play for 2 players, and out of his regular position.

Pulzetti is the kind of guy that adds that extra something to your team. If Zampa was smart, he’d get Pulzetti and just build the team around him. He is kind of like what Brighi was and is starting to live up to right now. Just a hard working guy who gets his hands dirty but can also put thru a ridiculous pass splitting center backs for a striker to bury…

Btw, Pulzetti walks into pretty much any midfield in Serie A at the moment…he’s like the Italian Kuzmanovic.

    Zampa’s at it again:

“I’m very worried about Sunday’s match between Palermo and Milan,” he continued.

“I hope that they send us a referee of a certain level who is not influenced by the mistakes or the favours received by teams in previous games.

“Obviously, if there is a team that shouldn’t say anything this year it is Milan.”

kaka has been pissing me off at late and no milan fans have been proud of what he’s done he is a class act i respect and love him but he seems to be jelous of r80’s good performances! never in the world would i imagine kaka to be like this i hope ancelotti leaves him in milano for the palermo clash because if he isn’t going to be positive he shouldn’t play as for the diving he’s just frustrated nothing more i can say lets just hope he doesn’t make it a habit. and i hope you guys stay up this year because your team plays some of the most entertaining football in calcio.
