Review: Bianconeri Bow Before Ballardini

By: Steven | October 6th, 2008

Wow. I expected a draw, but I never expected bringing home the bacon (or the panchetta) from the Olimpico in Torino. I haven’t seen much of the game except for a 25-minute highlight-reel and the things I heard over the radio, but I don’t think we stole those three points from Juve. If Cavani would just find his nose for goals back, we even could’ve scored three or four.

What I Liked:

Sneeze is the flavour of the week. It’s possible he never scores again, never plays another minute for Palermo or gets transfered to Genoa for demanding a starting spot next month, but I don’t care. He gave us three points, and those three points were taken off Juve’s dead, cold, almost-in-crisis hands.

Fabiolous keeps on stunning the crowd. I can’t believe we almost sold him this summer, and it’s even harder to believe that this is the same Simplicio as last year.

The Bovozzieri-partnership. Name any defensive pair in Serie A, and Cesare and Moris will most definitely kick the living shit out of them. Ballzagli who? Suckardo what?

Mighty Mouse may be forgotten by Lippi, he sure is the new King of Sicily. Six games, five goals. Some have already talked about Miccoli being past his prime. Fuck them. Micco’s never been this good, ever.

Ballardini’s subs. I cursed his Reggina-subs, but he did a mighty fine job yesterday.

What I Didn’t Like:

The Glass Man. We still rely on him too much. Please, needing a subsitution after scoring? Glad we have an international break coming up..

As I haven’t seen the entire game, I’m going for a short resume.

Pagelle (by Ricci, with some comments):

Amelia: 6. Slow afternoon, error on the equalizer.
Cassani: 8. Went up and down the flanks millions of times, secure in defending.
Carrozzieri: 7.5. Beast.
Bovo: 7.5. Beast.
Balzaretti: 7. Some trouble with Giovinco, not bad.
Liverani: 6. Did what he was brought in for. Good free kick for the 0-1.
Nocerino: 6.5. Looks like Gladiator.
Migliaccio: 6. Solid, nothing more.
Bresciano: 6.5. Full of heart.
Simplicio: 7. I would go for an 8. Was everywhere, sweet assist, should’ve made it 1-3.
Miccoli: frail
Cavani: 7. Plays well, causes panic, couldn’t score if his life depended on it.
Sneeze: 7.5. Match-winner.
Tedesco: old.

Ballardini: 7.

Facts:

Juventus 1 - 2 Palermo
Miccoli 23 (P), Del Piero 39 (J), Mchedlidze 81 (P)

Juventus: Manninger; Grygera, Mellberg (Salhamidzic 34), Knezevic, De Ceglie; Sissoko, Poulsen (Camoranesi 65), Marchisio; Giovinco (Nedved 80); Amauri, Del Piero

Palermo: Amelia; Balzaretti, Carrozzieri, Bovo, Cassani; Nocerino (Tedesco 79), Liverani, Bresciano (Mchedlildze 60); Simplicio; Miccoli (Migliaccio 29), Cavani

Ref: Tagliavento

Sent off: Sissoko 40 (J)

Giornata 6’s Androberto Guarraciolo Award:

“The home defeat hurts us deeply. Palermo scored with their only real chances.”

No shit, brainiac. It’s called ‘football’, you should try it.

Alessandro, looking at Italian citizenship laws should clear this up for you. If you are born on Italian soil, you can acquire Italian citizenship. However, because Balotelli was never legally adopted by his Italian parents, he could not apply for citizenship until he was 18, the age of majority. Take a look at this link to help clear things up:

    http://www.comune.torino.it/en/papers/italian-citizenship.shtml

He was born and raised in Italy, that’s good enough for me. It’s too bad he left Palermo for Brescia though, because it would have been great to have him come up through the Palermo youth teams and wear rosanero.

Alessandro, his mama and papa are Italian. His Italian parents adopted him. His biological parents are not, but so what.

Yeah, he was adopted into the Balotelli family when he was pretty young. If he grew up with his biological parents, I’d say he could play for either nation (like Rossi) but he’s Italian as they come. It’d just be odd if he played for Ghana, kind of like Alessandro’s favorite Sissoko, who despite being born and raised in France chose to play for Mali…he had never even been to Mali before being called up.

Lorenzo, we should play online sometime. I’ve got 08 for the 360 as well and play online every few days.

He’s not of the Italian bloodline, but he is an Italian citizen. There’s alot of gray area in this whole selection process. I say yes to Super Mario but a hell no to Amauri.

“there are African-Americans here in America but we don’t call them Africans”

isn’t calling them african-americans still calling them african? sorry, i had to point it out.

anybody remember the movie, The Ugly Daschund? Its an old Disney flick, but anyway. Its about a great dane that was mixed with a litter of daschunds. The great dane thinks he is a daschund until he realizes the obvious physical differences as he grows. Kind of a corny comparison, but it relates. Even though the great dane was raised like a daschund, it was still a great dane and they were still daschunds.

Anyway, i hate these stupid breaks for qualifiers…

If ADP can repeatedly get called up to national team. I think any Italian player should also be called up. The biggest waste of space in a azzurri shirt I have ever seen. So if Balotelli and Amauri displace him im fine with it.

Amauri should by no means represent Italy. It is not a question of his ability but of the fact he would rather play for Brasil and Italy is backup choice. Balotelli and Rossi there are zero problems with. I understand the argument that Balotetlli is 100% african blood, and that this is not in a racist way but simply that he is one sense fully Ghanian, but the fact that he is raised in Italy and born too and wants first choice to play for italy means he should be given the opportunity if he earns it on the field, end of story.

Alessio that video made me laugh. The game was already over. Wow ADP can score a goal when it doesnt matter. A Palermo legend won that game ADP goal is forgotten or after thought.

Ricci got partied hard last night and tonight in Rockville Center. A strip of bars like 10 mins away. Fri night were going to scandals in LIC and sat Sutton Place in NYC. Roll out son.

Well, like him or not Giro, I think he’ll be at WC2010 barring a serious drop in form or injury. Lippi loves the guy, more than anyone else I can think of.

He’ll be 35 if he gets called up I wont mind as long as he doesnt leave the bench. Guy fell off already this year. He sucks when he isnt wearing the White and Black of Juventus. Miccoli should def be the only short striker in 2010. ADP for worst azzurri player to ever put the jersey on.
