Recap and Relaunch
By: lorenzo | September 2nd, 2009First things first, the game on Sunday highlighted several things about our club:
1. Palermo still has problems playing on the road
Granted, it was the first away game of the season; yet, the away woes still seem to be right where they were last season, and the season before, and the season before that and the…(yeah, you get the idea)
2. I’m sensing a pattern to this team
First half = awful. Second half = amazing. Both against Napoli and against Fiorentina, the squad has looked pretty horrendous in the first half. Not controlling possession, poor passes, no attack. The second half always sees a significant boost in play and produces results. Who knows what it is, but Zenga must say something in the locker room that gets them to pick it up. I’d like to see this translate to a whole game…soon.

3. The pitch is HORRENDOUS
Somebody needs to dock the groundskeeper’s wages.
Wow. Just gross. People want to say that Pastore & Co. looked bad. While they didn’t look great, they also can’t be entirely faulted either. That pitch resembled more of a sand trap from Super Mario Bros. 2 rather than a Serie A-caliber pitch. All I can say is that I’m glad we won’t be making any more planned visits there in the near future.
4. Mutu is still a gypsy Romanian coke-snorting, vampire-like, prancing cheater
So some people feign offence at Mutu being labeled a gypsy. Ok, fine. I hope I’ve cleared things up with the above statement. I would never want to tarnish the Gypsy name by including him amongst them. Some want to take pity with his plight…and under normal circumstances, I would feel really bad for him too. Sure, he’s being done up hard by Chelsea…but, the fact is, he’s ADRIAN MUTU. There are only two people in the footballing world that I could feel less sorry for than Mutu: Ratface and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Le Pagelle
Rubinho 6 – Nothing he could really do about the goal that Weird Al Jovetic redirected, but what was up with those goal kicks?!
Cassani 6.5 -Pretty typical Cassani that we’ve seen. Did well to contain attacks from Vargas.
Balzaretti 7 – Tireless. Outside of Kjaer, he probably had the best game for Palermo.
Kjaer 8.5 – He looked like a veteran out there. Plain and simple. Head and shoulders above the rest of any Palermo player for the match, he came out of each challenge the winner – including goal-saving tackles.
Bovo 5.5 – Still needs to find some form. Indecisive at times.
Bertolo 5.5 – An interesting decision to be thrown in there from the start. Looked a little lost and at times definitely showed it. Give him time to adapt to the Italian style.
Bresciano 6 – Actually had some very positive moments…but also some very poor ones.
Pastore 6.5 – People need to cut the guy some slack. He’s young and only in his second game in Serie A. Yes, he had some poor passes and overall a pretty average game. However, his upside is tremendous and he had a couple remarkable passes (backheel anyone?!) as well as shaking some players on more than one occasion.
Cavani 6 – He runs and runs and runs.
Miccoli 6 – Unfortunately, there was no magic to be had in the sand pit.
Simplicio 5.5 – Helped out when he came on for Bertolo but was pretty average like the rest of the team.
Budan 6.5 – Yes, there is life from Igor!!! Just missed a header, but the promising thing is that he was actually dangerous and showed some signs of hope for the future.
Tedesco S.V. – ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Transfer Market
It’s done. No Dzemaili because he couldn’t handle competition.
Manuele Blasi

He’s no Dzemaili, but we brought in a bruiser, who has definitely got some bite. The jury is still out on how he will be incorporated into the team. He’s taking the number 88.
We got some time before our next game due to international breaks and such…so enjoy the video below:

given that romania will overtake italy in the level of life by 2020, the choice is obvious.
Is that why half of Romania is emigrating to Spain?
People who think disliking zingari is racist clearly have never been to Europe.
Mike, that’s precious stuff.

yes, the nortern US historically has been more economically advanced than the South, but the South has a certain charm to it that I would not trade away for a per capita income level that may be 5k-10k higher.
shhh I’m with you on il Mezzogiorno > nord but simple fact…northern us>southern us

i live in a village that dates back to 1086, recently a family of gypsies have moved in and they beg and play the fucking accordian outside the local pub! the little kid sells a magazine that is run by a charity for homeless people. they have set up a tent on the side of a busy road! its actually painful that this is what its come to in england especially yorkshire
they can whinge and complain about how they are treated by people but they make absolutely no effort to conform to whatever society they are leeching off at the time
alessio i watched a documentary about the gypsy kids in milan and madrid, thats some serious shit they just walk up to people at cash machines to steal their money!

haha i knew all the “yankees” of southern italian heritage were gonna have a problem with that analogy. no need to start another civil war on this issue, though. we’re all together for southern italy

mr. tartaria tablets aka The TEST (sounds like a stupid rapping name) you may want to rethink who’s the more advanced society because while all of you romanians were living in tents a man by the name of Archimedes (Born in Siracusa) developed things known today as the SCREW and PUMP? Ever hear of them? You and your fucking tablets can go vafannculo and get the fuck off OUR OFFSIDE and back back to living under Milan prostituting your wives and daughters yu pezzo di merda

@ricci. dude, you believe in vampires? let me guess, your favorite show is ‘true blood’, am i right? no? how about buffy?
@kj, i’m sorry you don’t like women. it’s not your fault. your parents should’ve given you cars instead of dolls to play with when you were little.
@alex. what gypsies have to do with romanians? they represent less then 1% of the total population. if some homeless gypsy settled in your village, it means what to you? i don’t see the connection. same for you alessio, don’t confuse gypsies with romanians, you looser. those romanians that emigrated to italy or spain in late ‘90 are returning home. compare the unemployment in spain(20%) and romania(3-4%), get your facts right.
@pino. archimedes was a GREEK living in the GREEK colony of Syracuse. he died during a roman siege. but that’s not the point. i didn’t say romanians are better than sicilians. i’m sure there are italian prostitutes, just like there are romanian, american, spanish etc.. think about that, before you decide to insult a WHOLE nation, you hopeless RETARD.

@Pino: Dont worry, your coach will be our coach in a few years. It is his dream. Walter Zenga will return to Inter – I know it. He just needs a little experience under his belt. Queue Palermo.

No need to argue about whats better Italy or Romania. Its not even comparable its like saying what would you rather eat lasagna or shit. No contest.
Btw in my town in Sicily all the Romanians are prostitutes. So yea how good can that economy be if they are coming to Sicily to sell there bodies.

ndcolin:
I’m not going to disagree with you about your preference for southern over northern Italy–that makes sense to me–but having returned to NY after living for 2 years in North Carolina I don’t share your southern preference in the US. There are some cool aspects to the Southern US–and still a fair amount of scary shit, too. Also I got awfully sick of all that mindless flag-waving, gun-loving, reproducing-at-an-astonishing-rate-and-at-a-young-age, and “Jesus-this and Jesus-that” bs.
But then you’re at ND, so those things may not bother you.
I’m actually an ND alum myself (a product of no less than 16 years of Catholic schooling!) and I have to agree with the great Italian patriot Garibaldi who said in the 19th C. that it wasn’t just the foreign occupiers of Italy responsible for its difficulties but the “cancer” occupying it very center: the Pope.
The Pope and the Church–whose ongoing molestation problems are surely not unrelated to its old tradition of allowing marriage between priests (pre-13th C.)–are just as, if not more, pernicious today.
But I did have some great profs at ND.
