Random Joking Around as we await The Big One
By: Steven | February 21st, 2008We’ve had our share of scallywagging with The Roma Offside the last couple of weeks, but you have to admit Chris sometimes comes up with some great ideas. As he already stole the idea from one of his commenters, I’m doing the same thing. I’m just curious what you guys are going to answer.
1) All-time World Cup Moment
I think lots of people will choose this one (as did Chris), but it was so amazing. Fabio Grosso, still a Palermo-player at the time, decides to takes things to his own hands and fire in this magnificent shot. One minute left in extra time, no idea what he’s doing there, he just fires the leather in the corner. For me, it’s not only the goal and the result, but also the fact that I was the only Italia-fan that evening, in a bar that was infested with Germany-fans. While everyone was starting to cry, I couldn’t stop yelling. This was close to an orgasm. Second moment: David Platt scoring a goal that was something like it against Belgium in Italia ‘90, leaving my home country behind with a huge hangover after a dominated match.
2) One Palermo-match in history you wish you would’ve attended
20.06.1979, Napoli: Coppa Italia Final Juventus - Palermo
A Serie B-team against a superclub, 0-1 trough Chimenti after 1′ minute, and then losing 2-1 three minutes before the end of the extra time. Must’ve been fabulous.
3) One Palermo scoreline you wish you could reverse
Well yeah, that one. It stings, it stings so bad.
4) Five favourite Palermo-players of all time
1. Eugenio Corini: Il capitano. Whatever happens, I’ll never forgive Zampa for not giving him an extention.
2. Luca Toni: call me easy, but where would we be without him?
3. Čestmír Vycpálek: fantastic footballer, gave us the promotion in ‘47
4. Gian Piero Gasperini: gave us some good times, would love him back as a coach
5. Claudio Ranieri: the motor of another promotion campaign, e un vero Siciliano
5) Five players to have never played for Palermo, past or present:
You have to be serious, ain’t no way Zlatan is going to play for us…
1. Roberto Baggio: He finishes off in Brescia, but I’d loved to have seen him come over to us
2. Stefan Effenberg: He’s big, mean and he played some great D…everything Barzagli ain’t
3. Darko Kovacevic: He’s like the poor man’s Toni, just what we needed when we bought Caracciolo
4. Julio Cruz: He played for Bologna, which was our chance
5. Martin Dahlin: yeah yeah, second ex-Gladbach player in the list, but that’s because I’ve seen him play live. He failed in Roma, but he could’ve made it here.
6) Maradona or Pele?
Nuff’ said.
7) Inzaghi or Vieri?
That’s like chosing between a lollipop and a Snickers-bar. i’m going for the nuts.
Baggio or Zola?
Il Divine Codino. Zola’s a filthy Sardinian.
9) Zoff or Buffon?
Dino. I’ve got his silhouette on a 60 by 90 painting in my room.
10) Least favourite player of all time?
Jürgen Klinsmann. I hate his face, his way of playing, his arrogance…I’d run over him if he was to lay wounded on the streets.
11) Do you have a second club?
Borussia Mönchengladbach (2nd Bundesliga, but winners of various European cups in the past)
Trapani Calcio (Eccelenza)
12) One player you would add to Palermo, past/present/dead/alive
Eugenio Corini, as a 25-year old on a lifetime contract.
13) One football dream you would like to see in your lifetime?
Last matchday, Palermo 2 points behind Juve. Catania 3 points clear of last relegation place, occupied bij Reggina. Reggina wins 3-0 to Juve, Palermo beats Catania 5-4, leaving Catania in B and us with the title.
14) Most prized football posession?
An worn Toni-shirt, last season in Serie B
15) Best player in the world right now?
Roberto Guana.
Enjoy!

1) When Del Piero scored the 2nd goal against Germany. I was so high off the first that the 2nd was just unreal. That shot was pretty ridiculous too. Then they showd some German girl on TV crying and my dad just screams “FUCK YOU!”
I would trade Barzagli and Roberto Guana’s soul for one last half season of Corini magic.

Guana ain’t got no soul. He’s like Martha Stewart II.

Here’s a question to all you guys. If you could eliminate either Guana or Guidolin who would it be?
My vote lies with Guana. I’m sure that’s no suprise.

Guidolin. If you eliminate him, the next coach will most likely eliminate Guana. Two flies…

I thought the same thing but then Colantuono picked Guana a lot too. Guana must suck a mean dick.

My second team is Olympique Marseille - I just love the French southerners! I grew up adoring Jean-Pierre Papin. And when we beat Milan in the CL final in ‘93, it was a sweet sweet time.
I guess I also have a soft spot for Torino. My grandmother is from there and is one of my favourite cities in the world. However, I could never bring myself to be a supporter. The passion just is not there and they are such a boring team!

if you ELIMINATE Guana…you would break Guidolin’s heart and he would probably retire….mourning and a widower and all….heh, i’m just picturing Guido as an old Sicilian widow in a black dress…also two stones

Yea, Lorenzo. The only Nerazzuri I’ll ever support. I have family there. 90011.it is the site for Bagheria news, with a whole page on the team, including pics, and short vids of their campaign. They’re looking rough though.

Anthony - it’s funny that you say that b/c I have family over there too that I visit every year. In fact, i’ll be there in June for my cousin’s wedding.
In other news, Capuano is done for the season. One less player for Guido to screw it up with…

Capuano being done is great, I hope Guana gets HIV
