Palermo Boys, we are here. We beat your women and drink their beer, Palermo Boys, we are here.

Preview

Zero out of six in our last two games, and now we’re heading to Spaghettitown. And if there ever was a must-win game, then this is it. Bologna is (apart from Chievo and Roma) without a doubt the worst team in Serie A, and the coming of Sinisa may not help them a lot. In their last two games (the ones under Mihajlovic), they drew twice, almost doubling their total. Still, this is a team that is bound to go back down. And I don’t mean ‘bound to go down’ like Reggina and Cagliari were last year, but ‘bound to go down’ like Treviso and Ascoli were. The difference between those two and Bologna being that there is actually is talent playing under the Two Towers, like Mundigayi or Di Vaio.

Anywho, losing this game is unacceptable. (how many times have you heard me saying this in the last two months?) The team must have learned from the Torino-debacle, and I sure hope Balla did too. As I have stated before, Palermo is a team that’s better against big teams than against small ones. Compare the Roma-Juve-Inter games to the Torino-Chievo-Lecce games, and you will agree with me.

Furthermore, there is not a single excuse that could let these guys off the hook when they screw up. If they could just play 4-5 good games in a row, and if the lazy fokkers in the line-up could finally see that it is an honor to wear the rosanero…

Squad Status

Palermo

Aah, my favourite part of preview-Wednesday. Or not. I hate predicting the same line-up week in, week out. Why? Because most of that line-up is fucked up. I hope that there one day will come a time when I received an email from bigpapapalermo@libero.it, saying that I’m granted a chance to take over the team for a month. But until that happens, I’ll have to use The Offside as my forum.

Butterfingers is ready to play and didn’t have a midweek-game with the Azzurri, Butterfingers 2 is benched. But Balla has big problems: Nocerino is still suspended after ‘The elbow that wasn’t’, and Bovo and Balza have the same problem after picking up too many cards. Y’all know what that means. The Arab stays where he is, constantly falling too the floor trying to find Mekka and Kjaer will replace Bovo alongside Moris. Oh yeah, and then there’s the left back position. You’ll never guess…ShitPants will get his first start of the season! Why don’t we just hand over the three points to Pasta FC before the game?

Probable Lineup:
Amelia; Cassani, Carrozzieri, Kjaer, Capuano; Migliaccio, Liverani, Bresciano; Simplicio; Cavani, Miccoli

Bologna

There is a Bologna-blog but I don’t know if they’ll be doing a preview, so it’s up to me. Yet again. Bologna is something special. A mix of mercenaries and old guys wanted nowhere else. Don’t believe me? Good, I’ll prove it. César, Di Vaio, Antonioli, Adailton, Marrazina… The perfect recipe for a one way ticket to Serie B.

But Bologna has a hero as well. Maybe not a Bologna-hero, but most definitely a Palermo-hero…

This man, boys and girls, is the reason that I eat, sleep and breathe Rosanero. I have told the story before, not going to do it again now. For those who want to know: his sweaty shirt is still hanging in my room. Davide won’t be around though, injured. Shame.

Probable Lineup:
Antonioli; Zenoni, Terzi, Moras, Lanna; Marchini, Volpi, Mudingay, Cesar; Adailton, Di Vaio

Categorical Match up

Lesser of Two Evils vs. Travelin’ man: Push. They’re both questionable goalies. The least tested will win.

Beauty & The Beast vs. Swiss Cheese: Palermo. A dared gamble, I agree. Especially seeing Cassani (dreadful game last week) and ShitPants on the flanks. I sure hope they both want to show that they can play.

Allah Ahkbar & the Damage Control 3 vs. Nothing Special: Push. Bresciano + Liverani = carnage waiting to happen. On the other side, there’s Gaby. A beast.

Make or Break vs. Second Class: Push. Our striking pair hasn’t scored in the last two games. Nothing to add there.

Final Analysis

We’re playing the second worst defense in the league. We’re playing a team that do not even come close to a one goal per game-ratio. We’re playing a relegation battler who just appointed a new coach. All the omens are against us. I don’t care if this game will be uglier than the lovechild of Fabio Liverani, Giuseppe Mascara and Franck Ribéry: I want three points. I don’t care if it ends 0-1, thanks to a 80 miles an hour freekick deflecting off Bresciano’s face, leaving the Aussie like he had just gotten ten minutes with Mike Tyson. I WANT THOSE GODDAMN, MOTHERFUCKIN’ THREE POINTS!

If Budan was so close to 100% fitness why take him off at half time … if lanzafame deserves a chance why give him 3 minutes at the end when we were losing for so long .. we scraped a draw in the 93rd minute against an awful team … we cant score against anyone … all the teams below us are even starting to outscore us .. its a joke.

Thank god Balzaretti is available against milan because capuano is even worse player then liverani.

Im so sick and tired of this team and ballardinis use of subs.

Alessandro we dominated attack but as always we dont score .. we get 50 chances and are lucky to score one .. it isnt good enough. Maybe people will lay off amelia now too .. he made some good saves after capuano fuck ups.

Had it not been for Moris stupid mistake and Bologna-goalies crazyass saves, we would’ve took that 3pts tonight. Bologna were doing nothing but sit back and defend with 9 men for the entire 2nd half. Our tough luck.
Succi looked pretty decent to me. He was working his ass off and you could tell that a goal was coming in his way.

Decent ……. did you see the chances he missed lol, he should have scored 3.

Bolognas goalkeeper was good but its just a continuation of us not scoring enough that is making me angry. And like I said 10 times already .. ballardinis use of subs baffles me. Apparently we could have had 10 goals today but we settle for one as usual.

Im just dissapointed we cant win a game :( I want so much for palermo to be higher in the table.

Maybe we can surprise milan, we play better against the big teams anyway. I have to go now, enjoy the rest of sunday if you can guys and girls.

    Ciao

Like you said, we had problem with scoring goal. So Balla subs in two strikers in the second half to stregthen the attack, switching to a trident. What would you rather have him do then? But I agree taking Miggy out was probably not such a good move.

I believe Succi had 3 chances – 1 blocked by Antonioli, 1 annulled by an offside call, and 1 goal. 1 out of 3, not a bad tally, considering the rest of our strikers didn’t go anywhere close to even missing a shot. Overall, I’m not feeling too depressed about this draw. We played well, showed grinta and created a lot of chances. We were just unlucky tonight.

i just got home after driving the rest of the day back to ny from vermont so i missed the game, but if we truly played well, created a lot of chances, and have a striker breaking out a bit in Succi (did he really play well or just score a lucky one?) which would give us another option, then we must be a little happy with that. Lets face it, this is going to be a building process until January if not June so my expectations have plummeted. Bologna suck but they are tough and we played with 9 men with Liverani and CApuano, 1-1 after 9 vs 11 is a good result.

Liverani’s performance was passable. I’d give the honor of the Guaracciolo Award to Capuano and Nocerino – the latter a huge disappointment for me, should’ve been subbed instead of Miggy.

As for Succi, you can watch the h/l and decide it yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEOy5pYmFZ4

well watchin those highlights we should have won that. quite a good gol by succi and capuano should be shot. nocerino just needs to master the basics first

capuano gets my vote for the guaraccicciolo.

just saw the full highlight reel for the first time, and we didnt look that bad, especially in the second half. we just have to convert our chances. right now we’re 8 pts away from the drop, so i dont see us playing poorly enough down the strectch to earn a relegation. this what i’d like to see in january:

    1) sell liverani and guana, sign a couple of competent midfielders

    2) loan cavani. the kid has talent, but he’s missed way too many easy chances this yr and badly needs a confidence boost. i think a stint of beating up on serie b or lower-level european competition can remedy that

    3) start playing lanza more. if he has a bright future, let’s see it now

    4) look for a young “hitman.” we have plaenty of playmaking forwards; we need finishers

that kierson or whatever his name is could be the answer hes 19 and has scored 54 in 100 which is excellent. if we dont start playing properly we will be in relegation zone by end of january

Did anyone catch Moris heading for the settore ospiti after Succi’s goal to rile the crowd up? How could you not like this gigantic goofball lol. Rip that armband off Arab and hand it to Moris.

Got blacked out drunk and overslept my alarm by 4 hours. Pretty pissed I missed the game, but judging by the highlights and Kat’s positive comments I’m not too worried about the result. Succi did look good, and let’s not fool ourselves that was a very tough goal to score, especially in the 93rd with tons of nerves.

Capuano with that pass straight to Di Vaio…wow. He plays in Serie A? REALLY NOW????

Moris is without a doubt the undisputed leader of this team.

Ricci he seems a lot better than Tuffonaldo. :D

Amelia finally seems to be taking his job seriously so that’s a good news.
Our attack looked somewhat insipid and static on the 1st half. Budan is still distant from fit, even though he showed a few good one-twos with Miccoli. 2nd half was all Palermo, and towards the end of the match we were once again playing them with 4 strikers aided by Moris doing post-play in Bologna’s box. There were about 18 players crowded in that little area and it was quite a spectacle to watch lol. Succi along with Miccoli, was undoubtfully the best in our attacking force. Good move by Balla for subbing Cavani and Succi adding more dynamism to the attack.

Shitpants didn’t disappoint; useless in the defense and attack alike. Nowhere to be seen during Valiani’s run right before the Bologna-goal. A sloppy Balzaretti is 70x superior to him.
Nocerino is my personal pick for the worst player of the night. Anonymous on the 1st half, resembling a love-child of Liverani and Guana on the 2nd half.

Well if anything came from the game you guys are gonna now lay off Marco in goal lol.(Nice headgear nonna) I still think succi should have scored more then the 1 but oh well moving on.

No kaka is a very big plus for us .. lets see what team Ballardini puts out next week. Dont Milan also play in uefa cup on thursday which should tire them a bit more depending on who they choose? The problem we are going to have is if Ballardini does choose Liverani in the center .. Pato, Ronaldhino, seedorf and even snory slowman himself pirlo are just goign to run right past him without a challenege being made. Next week will be perfect for a migliaccio/Nocerino combo of crunchyness.

Bresciano plays well against milan, lets see what he can do.
