Squad Status

Palermo

Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve got some awesome news for you. Roberto Guana, the Bald Buffoon, is injured! Guido has been reported crying on the side of Guana’s bed, praying to God and Klein Pierke to get him healthy again. If the big man above has any sense of humour, he might give him a bacterial infection. Giulio Migliaccio is suspended after getting too moch yellow cards, so we’re most likely to see Simplicio starting again. Bresciano’s probably benched again, which will see Caserta on the left. Up front, Miccoli seems to have healed and will pair up with the Brazilian Showboat. I’m still including Bosko, as Guido can’t keep him on the bench for the rest of the season.

Probable Line-up
Fontana; Zaccardo, Rinaudo, Barzagli; Cassani, Bosko, Simplicio, Caserta, Balzaretti; Miccoli, Amauri

Reggina

Man, i’ll come close to crying when I’ll see Ciccio in another jersey than the rosanero one. Makinwa, another ex-Palermitano, will be benched after sucking away in the last match. Well, that’s a suprise! Nicola Amoruso returns to the attack, while Modesto is most likely skipping this one because of an injury.

Probable Line-up
Campagnolo; Lanzardo, Valdez, Aronica; Missiroli, Barreto, Cascione, Modesto; Vigiani, Brienza; Amoruso

Categorical Matchup

Jimmy vs. Blunderman: Still going for Jimmy.

Oh My God, we kept a clean sheet! versus Some More Swiss Cheese: Palermo. We’re still -6 or something in goal difference, but Reggina doesn’t do much better. We can pour some confidence out of that clean sheet earlier this week, and Rinaudo’s in the starting eleven.

I hope there’s no Guana versus All Out Attack: Palermo. Without Guana, we have a fantastic midfield. Reggina can’t really get any passes trough, so we’ll have to make sure we can do better.

Micco’s Back versus We Want You (Back): Push. It’s been a long time since an attacker has scored a goal, and Ciccio and Amoruso will be looking to show something. Ciccio to get him back, Amoruso to put in that offer Zampa promised.

Final Analysis

Looking at the previous encounters, this is bound to be a tie. On the other hand: Reggina has scored 3/15, Palermo 9/15. But Palermo’s WLWLW-record scares me: if this would be logical, we’re in for a beating again. We can’t afford losing anymore points to some relegation battlers, because we have done this enough this season. if we won against Parma, Reggina and Siena, no-one would be talking about Udinese or those Blucherciati-pussies. Time to get things straight: i’m predicting a nice win.

Last 5 years

07/10/2007 Palermo Reggina 1-1 Serie A
20/01/2007 Reggina Palermo 0-0 Serie A
10/09/2006 Palermo Reggina 4-3 Serie A (do you guys remember? Biava’s stunner…)
05/02/2006 Reggina Palermo 2-2 Serie A
21/09/2005 Palermo Reggina 1-0 Serie A
15/05/2005 Palermo Reggina 1-1 Serie A
06/01/2005 Reggina Palermo 1-0 Serie A

Prediction

1-3. Ciccio 1-0, Amauri doppietta, Miccoli

MOTM

Rinaudo.

Sono Bello, Sono Sano, Mia Madre Mi Ha Fatto Palermitano!

Oh yeah, I didn’t want you guys to miss out on this. This guy is called ‘Dietwin The Jodelaar’, and he’s scored a massive hit with his song ‘Jodeladie Hip Hip Hip’. In Belgium, we don’t jodel. We hate it. But I’m still checking him out in the bar tonite. Here’s the video, but remember: we’re not all that retarded in the Old Country.

Yeh agree. Balzaretti plays his best as a defender too, he can attack from deeper, get a head of steam up and beat ppl or make a pass. Guidolin is the most tactically inept manager in the game. Guana made about 10 very, poor dangerous passes today that could have hurt us. Thank god we get Migliaccio back next week, I just hope Amauri and Fontana recover or else we are fucked. Toto, Quags and friends will eat us alive if we play the 3-6-1.

as far as the Amauri & Fontana injuries are concerned, they’re both looking pretty good and i dont think they’ll miss the game against Udine. But I’m sure things could change…

how about NAPOLI man?! very nice!

oh, and Cassano going absolutely batsh!t crazy again kind of made my day as well. the kid better be kept clear of the Euro…

Jimmy is most definitely back for Udinese match. Amauri, however, I’m more doubtful about. Hopefully we can recover Miccoli at the very least.
Without Balza, I’m anxious to know what choices will Scemolin make for his back-line.

BTW I noticed that we managed to keep a clean-sheet for two games in a row. Very impressive. On Palermo-scale, that’s an astounding achievement so kudos to our DFs - or should I say, Leandro & boys;)

i think what’s even more impressive is the fact that we kept a clean sheet with AGLIARDI in goal. man, i thought we would come away with no points for sure.

Out of interest … had Zamp opted to stay with Colantuono, how do you think our standing on the table would be reflected:
    (a) better
    (b) worse
    (c) same
    (d) relegation zone

i think it would all depend on whether or not the team found a style of play under Colantuono. that was the problem. they didn’t know what they were doing. Under Guido, we have a style of play, but horrible tactical decisions.

And somehow Guana found himself on the pitch under both coaches…

I agree with Lorenzo. I would say we would be the same b/c Colantuono was basically employing the same tactics as Guidolin right now. Amauri began to flourish this season when we put other attackers up with him who could feed him the ball. Otherwise, he just gets a useless long ball and is double-teamed by the centre backs. Any striker in the world would find it difficult to score goals in those conditions.

marco - yeah, you would think that that was Guido’s argument for not playing Jankovic. HOWEVER, I distinctly remember his press conference after the game against Real Betis when he said that nobody could use that reason for him not playing. He demonstrated that he knew enough Italian during the interview (he was speaking Italian) and that he deserved playing time. That was back at the beginning of January. I’m sure he speaks even better now that we’re almost two months after the fact. A poor excuse from Guidolin if that’s his only reason for not playing him.

Guido gave some more props to Rinaudo, so hopefully he keeps him in the lineup. I’m nervous as to who will be replacing Balzaretti though.

Guidolin’s 3-6-1 formation is becoming a hit worldwide, I don’t think he’ll stay with us…he’s gonna be coaching at Milan or Barca next year. The way he packs the midfield to a point of players running into each other is uncanny.

Spot on Kat. It’s the young guys who could be helping Donadoni (Rossi, Giovinco et al) but he’s gonna end up picking some old fart instead. Same thing with Guido. He picks this slow Australian when Bosko is 10X better and shows it. Guido, Guana and Bresciano definitely all go out to a nice dinner after Palermo games and laugh about how they’re ruining the team.

Yeah Lorenzo completely agree. This guy is fuggin horrible. If he starts over De Rossi at the Euros, Donadoni needs to be sacked on the spot.

Glad to know I’m not the only one who think Ambro sux. The guy is not even a regular starter at his club yet he’s garanteed a spot in EURO2008. Are you people running that short of MF talents?
