Preview: Palermo - Viola

Saturday December 8th, 2007
Stadio Renzo Barbera, Palermo

Squad Status

Palermo

Finally, back at the Barbera after 0/6, a 1-8 goal ratio and some of the worst football ever shown to mankind. I expect Guidolin to turn the team around completely. Why? Because it’s not possible that he’s gonna keep on playing with those windbags in midfield. So, what’s gonna happen? Up front, Amauri isn’t gonna lose his place altough he’s on a dry spell which can make Ethiopia jealous. Guidolin will probably sacrifice Brienza, so that Miccoli can play. Yeas, you’ve read that right: He Who Shouldn’t Be Allowed To Play With Scissors returns from injury, ready to kick some ass. Another player lookin’ to be losing his place is Manchester Bresciano. Again sucking away this weekend, he will most likely lose his place to Edison Cavani. That’s right, Guidolin is going for the Christmas Tree again! The worst news is that Caserta is suspended for that imaginary red card last week, and also Suckaway Pisano is injured. Let’s just hope Guido goes for Rinaudo in stead of Cyrano. Cassani will also be there, if my sources are correct.

Probable Line-up
Fontana; Cassani, Barzagli, Rinaudo, Zaccardo; Diana, Simplicio, Guana; Cavani, Miccoli; Amauri

Fiorentina

Things aren’t working out for Viola: two losses in their last two games have made them tumble down the ladder. Hmm, where have i heard that story before? Cesare Prandelli is most likely sticking to his standard team, altough Dainelli might be replaced with the returning Montolivo. In the back, Per Kroldrup is still injured. For more on Fiorentina, get to this place.

Probable Line-up
Frey; Potenza, Ujfalusi, Gamberini, Pasqual; Donadel, Liverani, Montolivo; Semioli, Pazzini, Mutu

Categorical Matchup

Goalie- Fiorentina: Old Man Jimmy versus Toy Boy Frey. He made some mistakes the last couple of weeks, but I’m going with Martha’s boyfriend.

Defense- Push: Viola doesn’t have the best defense, but we conceded 8 times in 2 games. With Cassani and Rinaudo in the team, we should be able to turn things around.

Midfield- Push: Fiorentina’s midfield kicks ass, but I keep believing that one day our midfield is going to stop sucking. Miccoli and Cavani return, so we might be able to do something here.

Forwards- Fiorentina: Shit. Superman Pazzini, Pubic Hair Semioli and The Wheels On My House Go Round And Round versus the only Brazilian who doesn’t know how to score a goal. I’m going to put money on Amauri not scoring again.

Final Analysis

Last season, we got 4/6 against Fiorentina, including that 2-3 win when everything still looked great. This season, I’m rather pessimistic. 0/9 is intolerable, but I can’t see us taking all three points against this team. We need the fans, we need the team to get their priorities straight and we need Guido to get his head out of his own arse.

Prediction

My heart says win, my mind says loss, so let’s go for a draw. Boring game, Gypsy 0-1, Viola red card, 1-1 Miccoli in the last five minutes.

Sono Bello, Sono Sano, Mia Madre Mi Ha Fatto Palermitano!

My boyfriend is proud you’ve chosen him over the kickass scrawny old man.

I’ve been hearing there’s rumbling about people wanting Bargazli out as captain. I’ve not watched Palermo anywhere near as much as I did last, but he doesn’t strike me as much of a leader — he seems to sort of vanish when things get tough. a)Am I ought of my mind, and b)if it wasn’t him, who on earth would it be? The old man in goal?

Martha, I’d say he tends to get extra-mouthy and hits out on fans when thing get tough.

I know he’s a Brazilian on an Italian team, but methinks Amauri would have been the perfect captain. He speaks Italian fairly well and I think he is our only true leader. You can tell he’s trying to keep morale high on the field, and he never seems to get negative. Jimmy SuperFly Fontana woulda been a great captain too. Barzagli - I pretty much have the same feelings as Martha. He’s always looking to blame someone else.

Ricci, I was actually going to suggest Amauri, but I wasn’t sure if he’d been around long enough to be seen as a leader by the rest of the the team.

Being a good captain starts behind closed doors, and on that note we will never know how well Barzagli has fared. He has backed his boys in the media, as we all know at the expense of the fans. Personally, I think he has been a pretty good field general. Its hard when we get slaughtered in the midfield every game.
Call me old fashion, but the captain of your team shouldn’t be linked with transfer every other day. He should be the guy that you think would be buried with the home kit on!

I know that Amauri and Cavani have a good relationship…Amauri has kind of taken him under his wing. Amauri strikes me as the kind of person who is very generous and cares about the team, and his fans seem to love him. Barzagli on the other hand seems very stand offish, and never willing to take the blame. However, like KJ said, being a good captain does start behind closed doors so you never know…and I definitely agree with KJ’s last statement, which is why having Amauri as captain wouldn’t be great. We’ll see what happens. Anyone can captain a side when things are going well, but now that Palermo is in the dumps we will see how good of a leader Barzagli is.

I don’t know if Amauri is the right man for the job. He might be gone very soon, and his level of play hasn’t been something to write home about lately. My first choice would be Jimmy (altough he can end up a benchwarmer if Amelia shows up), or Caserta. Have you seen the progress on this guy? You all hated him while I gave him love, and now sometimes he’s our only good player…

There he goes again. A good player he may be, but has got intelligence of a goldfish. If Criscito+Almiron+cash is the deal, frankly I wouldn’t mind at all.

I thought Barzagli could be a good captain. Especially during the summer in which he was seeking a switch (mainly to Juve since Zampa wouldn’t sell him to Fioremerda), the captain’s armband seemed like a good incentive to make him stay, or at least appease him. After his continual comments about his “life after Palermo” and the fractious relationship between him and the tifoserie, I really would’ve re-thought my status with him as our captain.

Jimmy Fontana has given alot to us and he is a wiley veteran who, I believe, shows captain-like elements. Steven, I know you love Caserta but I wouldn’t see it too likely with giving him the captain-ship so soon. Amauri is a nicer choice, but he, too, is only here for the short-term (although apparently Grimaldi, his agent, is in Palermo to renew his contract…). Another candidate would be Zaccardo, but I just don’t see him as being vocal enough, or a leader for that matter (he is a vice-captain).

So, when it’s all said and done, let’s hope Barzagli shapes up his act…but more importantly, FORZA PALERMO!

Even if Palermo lose I’m happy b/c after 14 weeks they finally put a decent lineup out!!! Ppl will chalk this up to the return of Miccoli, which definitely helps…but Guana + Migliaccio in the midfield is awesomeness.

entertaining first half…if we get Capuano out for a better defender we definitely have a better chance of taking the 3.

This was the best all-around game they’ve played all year. Migliaccio, Guana and Simplicio played wonderfully. Now this can be a team that can challenge for a champions league spot. I finally have hope again.

Excellent game. Our defense isn’t as bad as everyone thinks, it’s just that with no support from the midfield, you could have 4 Cannavaros back there and it wouldn’t matter.

Once Caserta is back I wonder what’s gonna happen…It’d be hard to say that he wasn’t the best midfielder so far this season…I guess maybe push Simplicio up and let Cavani see the bench. 2nd half Cavani was awesome though. Miccoli is really far from fit right now so everyone is gonna see some playing time anyway. GREAT WIN! FORZA PALERMO!!

Good job guys. Again, nothing spectacular, but a solid presentation. Look what magic a right kind of tactic can do. The only downside is that we’re gonna have to see a whole lot more of Shitpants after this.

what an assist by Amuari. Steven, he might be only Brazilian who can’t score, but who needs goals with magic like that.

Glad to see Mighty Mouse back in action.

It’s about 2.45 am here, I returned from some christmas market, and decided to watch the game I taped…hello sweet dreams! Miccoli was awesome, that Simplicio-goal was pure magic, and Amauri’s assist was the most beautiful thing i’ve seen all year. Was Fiorentina even on the pitch? Enjoy the rest of your day people, I’m heading for my bed…

Amauri hasn’t scored lately because of the midfield’s feeble attempts at feeding him the ball. We all witnessed tonight how Amauri and Miccoli play so well together. It’s excellent…
