Preview: Palermo - Udinese
By: Steven | March 7th, 2008

Stadio Renzo Barbera, La FavoritĂ , Palermo
Squad Status
Palermo
Y’all better start crying. Amauri has a slight injury, and Balzaretti is out with too many yellow cards. Fontana isn’t completely healed, but everybody knows that Agliardi was lucky last week and won’t get a clean sheet again, so Jimmy’ll retake his position. For the rest, you know what’s gonna happen: no Bosko, no Bikerman Caserta, yes Guana.
Palermo (probable): Fontana; Rinaudo, Barzagli, Biava; Zaccardo, Migliaccio, Guana, Simplicio, Cassani; Miccoli, Cavani
Udinese
No Zapata and no Dossena. Few… But still: Pepe, Toto, Quaglia…pff…
Udinese (probable): Handanovic; Coda, Felipe, Lukovic; Ferronetti, D’Agostino, Inler, Isla; Pepe, Quagliarella, Di Natale
Categorical Matchup
Jimmy vs. Underestimated Handa: Jimmy, always Jimmy.
Oh My God, we kept another clean sheet! versus Wounded Animal: Push. Two clean sheets in a row, thanks to Rinaudo. We might have a shot here.
Still that Goddamn Guana versus Young Guns: Udinese. Balza’s out, and Guana ain’t.
Micco’s Back versus Stormy Weather: Push. Miccoli AND Cavani need to prove themselves with Amauri out. On the other side, Quaglia has to do the same thing, but Di Natale is smoking!
Final Analysis
I don’t really feel like doing this today. We need a win, case closed. Closes the gap for the UEFA spots.

Handanovic u son of ****
It’s disheartening to play well and draw. Guido should’ve started Serbo instead of Cavani - the biggest egoista I’ve ever seen.Posted from

Eh I think Mattia’s still faster than Zacco or Capuano but we can agree to disagree.

Well, let’s hope Genoa, Napoli, Sampdoria and Atalanta don’t pick up points tomorrow..

Napoli go up against a hot Roma, Sampdoria are useless without Cassano and Genoa play Juventus. This wasn’t a terrible result but it’s frustrating to know we could’ve won this game 3-1. Guidolin only made 1 sub, we could have used someone at the end too.

We should have put Miccoli on at the end no question. we played a good game and it is frustrating to have only tied, but at least we played well for a change.

Only that I don’t trust Gobbi. They’ve been quite inconsistent for some time.
Yeah, I never thought it’d be possible to put up a decent enough performance and not look like a Serie D team with that shit-ass formation but, man, was I proven wrong tonight. Compliments to the team for not giving up till the very end. On a side note, did you notice how much more composed and alert Barzagli look next to Rinaudo? Had Guidolin not been such a pighead, we’d have acquired that 40pts by now.Posted from

Agree, easily 40 pts. Rinaudo is an absolute legend. Biava is still shaky but they are booth boosted by the presence of Rinaudo. I think that Guido saw Bosko needs to start from the beginning. His ball control, dribbling, decisions are 10X better than that of Cavani and he can actually get a shot low and hard. Cavani needs to go out on loan or something next season, we’re gonna be in trouble if we have to count on him and Paper Miccoli. Well, I take comfort that we outplayed a top 6 team today.

I think either Serbo or Miccoli should take the supporting striker role. Let’s face it, the Amauri-Cavani partnership is a disaster. Cavani is not accustomed to play in such module with 2 strikers. He’s no secondapunta and the kid just doesn’t know what to do in that position. For him it’s either the lone-striker role or the bench.

Rinaudo = future Azzurri CB

Yeh I completely agree Kat. The best we’ve seen from Cavani has been when he hasn’t been crowded with other attackers, either on the wing or as CF by himself (think Cagliari, Fiorentina). He needs the space to run, he’s got great pace - that’s his biggest asset. Guidolin is retarded for trying to play him as a supporting striker. It’s like trying to play Van Nistelrooy as a supporting striker. He’s a selfish player and he only has 1 thing on his mind and that is to score goals.
Today I’ve come to realize that Caserta-Simplicio really don’t work that well. Simplicio plays his best games when he doesn’t have Caserta occupying his space in CM. He needs that space to turn on the ball, make decisions - basically do all the stuff he’s supposed to do. I was a little rough on Cassani earlier, he played well. None of our outside backs even touch the level of Balzaretti though, can’t wait till he comes back.
Guidolin really has no choice but to drop Cavani to the bench. He should be a sub for Amauri or someone to throw on against tired legs cuz of his pace. Jankovic brings more to the table in terms of overall quality and he’s just gotta start. I hope he realized that today, because my 12 year old cousin did when we were watching the game.

I’m sure the mule can come up with 70 thousand petty excuses to not start the Serbo.
Leandro has what it takes to be a household name CB. He’s got the physique, speed and brain. We’ve gotta hold to him at all cost. Selling him would be Corini-fiasco level of stupidity Zampa&Co. have ever committed.
Simplicio tends to plays better within 30m’s range of opponents’ goal. IMHO he’s more of a trequartista than a classic CM. Guido has been ordering him to stay deep and do the rottura. No wonder he’s been underperforming.

This was our chance to get back in the race, but if the competition fails to gather points this afternoon, we’re still only 4 points behind Europe.

You guys are really good. I’ve just finished watching he game myself (I had to record it - early mornings kill me!) and there is no more I can add to this. I agree especially that Rinaudo deserves his place and does wonders for the team. Also Bosko must start. To seem him with the ball at his feet and just be so damn in control is a treat. Oh,
Simplicio’s goal was sublime.Where would Serie A be without the Brazilins!?

Only Sampdoria really gained points on us…that’s not too bad. Let’s see if we can take some points from Internazionale de Buenos Aires

Guido’s probable line-up against Inter:
Amauri
Balza-Cossentino-Agliardi-Cassani-Zacco
Barzagli-Rinaudo-Biava

Oops, meant to put Ujkani there as well.

lol what about cossentino? you should throw in edgar cani instead of amauri hed work wonders:P

Cossentino is already there.
Why even bother with fielding midfielders and forwards? It’s not like we actually care to do counterattacks against these top flight teams(look Riomma-PA, Milan-PA). Just pack the whole starting XI with defenders so we can sit back all day long, scrape a point at the end of the day.Posted from

Is Miccoli a huge pussy or what?

well, he certainly has been a disappointment in the “stay healthy” department. this team would certainly have more points if Miccoli had been in more games this year. hopefully, he comes back this week and will be with us for the rest of the year. i wouldn’t bet on it though.

Parma just sacked Di Carlo…I really, really, really hope he ain’t coming our way.

GRANDE ZAMPARINI!!!
He let it be known that he would like to see more of Jankovic and told Guido how he felt. He also said that he wants to see an ATTACKING Palermo and that Guido needs to get some balls and man-up during games instead of playing timid.
Bout time…

I just finished watching the game…man, were we robbed or what? 18-7 shots in, 10-2 corners…Guido should’ve thrown in some more subs. Jankovic in = whole lotta different team.
