Preview: Palermo – Rubentus
By: Steven | February 21st, 2009
Saturday, February 21st, 2009 20.30
Stadio La Favorità, Palermo
I warriors, brigate rosanero, siamo forti e vinceremo!
Preview
I like 20.30 games. We raped the Juventini last season at that time of day, we ravaged Milan twice at that hour and Fiorentina was taken for a ride last year, at 20.30. It just adds to the excitement of this match-up. And there are many reasons to get excited: we need a win after last week’s humiliation in Reggio, Juventus will need a win after not winning three out of four, Juventus might be resting some starters for the clash with Piggybank FC later this week, we need to stay in the slipstream of the European spots, and last but not least, it’s another duel with our good friends over at the Juventus Offside.
La Favorità’s going to give the bianconeri hell, that’s one thing we know for sure. Especially with the memories of last year’s delirium. I think it’s safe to say that Cassani’s screamer is one of the best football-moments I’ve ever experienced. Orgasms are nothing compared to the jizz-explosion that happened at that time.
Squad Status
Palermo
So, back in full strenght. Moris is still missing, but I don’t think any of us will be worried when Kjaer is ready to take the stage. Levan, the hero of the andata, is missing with an injury as well, and Budan’s stuffing his face with whatever Croatians stuff their face these days. Liverani’s back, and so is The Down Under-performer.
Probable Lineup:
Amelia; Cassani, Kjaer, Bovo, Balzaretti; Bresciano, Liverani, Nocerino; Simplicio; Miccoli, Cavani
Juventus
The Juventus Offside is most likely doing a preview, so you can get your info there, if you’d want. Amauri and Trez might be benched for this one, while Chiellini and Camoranesi might join them.
Probable Lineup:
Buffon; Grygera, Legrottaglie, Chiellini, Molinaro; Marchionni, Sissoko, Marchisio, Nedved; Del Piero, Iaquinta
Categorical Matchup
Wannabe Buffon vs. Buffon: Juventus. The King versus the Butterfingered Heir to the Throne. Who would you pick?
Stronghold vs. The Maze: Palermo. If there’s one part of the line-up we can beat, it’s this one. Of course, I haven’t seen all Juve-games this season, but both Grygera and Legrottaglie have not impressed me at all.
ZZ Top & The Underperformers vs. Four Horsemen?: Juventus. With our boys from the Southern Hemisphere (Liverani not included) playing like sacks of shit, there’s no chance of us beating Juve here.
Best thing since sliced bread vs. Not Amauri: Push. Miccoli can’t kick a freekick like ADP (does that stand for Anal Double Penetration?), but Iaquinta isn’t Cavani. We can do this.
Final Analysis
This is a game where we are most definitely the underdog, even if Juve hasn’t beaten us in ages. And that’s when we shine. We don’t do it against Reggina, Torino or Bologna, but we do it against the Big Boys. I think that a performance like the first half against Napoli is not too much too ask. Winning would be sweet, but a draw would make the evening pretty good as well.

Do I still hear somebody mentioning UEFA? Our fate for this season has been sealed when Zampa&Co. decided to bring noone last January. We’ll finish 9th this season and the sooner you accept it, the less the torment.

Spot on.

9th? Hmmm better than the 11th I predicted prior to the season

Just think if they werent so dumb and signed a decent backup striker at the beggining of the year(not c1 trash) and a couple of midfielders in january we could be ok. The fact the swiss kid still hasnt been given a chance baffles me considering he can play midfield also .. is he gonna be another player we leave to rot on the bench while we use the same old shit like nono and company over and over with no end result.

the swiss chocolate should be playing RM and Balza LM. I expect to see this change soon. Simplicio and Bresciano are skating on thin ice with their shit fucking form.
Miccoli really needs to make an effort to lose some weight as well. He runs for 20 minutes and then vanishes. Not even close to being match fit.

That’s what panelle, arancine and pattatine do to your ass…

Miccoli def eats arancine all day after smoking weed

well i have to say that was an interesting experience! the palermo game was absolutely crazy the noise was deafening! the reason you didnt win that game is because of 2 men, buffon and chiellini. juve are a different team when chiellini is playing, along with vidic there is no other defender in the same league as them. the palermo fans are amazing and the barbera is definitely my favourite to go to. cefalu and palermo are as beautiful as ever. you can be pleased that you have a new squad and that with a couple of signings in the summer you could compete for champions league IF your players would try harder away from home. and liverani was insane it was like he was possessed and everyone started chanting his name including me! kjaer is one of the best defenders in serie a and only 19?! its crazy how good he actually is and against juventus as well. definitely going to be one of the best players in the world if he keeps going. and bovo definitely could have done better for sissokos goal

and i remember boro was linked to him back in 2007 you lucky bastards

Disagree with you guys on the handball-noncall…I think it was the right decision. Clearly unintentional and perhaps just as importantly, Legro had 0 time to react.

Meh .. no offence but he clearly moves his arm toward the ball not away from it. Its one of the most obvious handballs ive ever seen. That being said it is irrelevant we lost 2-0 and our squad simply isnt strong enough. Glad you enjoyed palermo Alex.

he does move his arm towards the ball, although he did have zero time to react. I would have given the penalty. Milan and Inter get those calls all day, everyday.

milan get penalties outside the box! juventus got every decision their way on saturday. its the nature of the big teams so the refs get to officiate them again = more money for them
Posted from
United States

and am i right in thinking that inter scored through a handball situation again on saturday? and does anyone remember the goal ibrahimovic scored where he brings the ball all the way down his arm and then slots it home? cheating bastards the lot of them
Posted from

wish they would just call the games fair for the mid table and smaller teams. refs are just flat out scared to give calls against big squads all over the globe .

It’s like Albania.

even in euros and world cup they are shit like when an english ref, cant remember which one, gave out 3 yellow cards to one bloke?! its written down in their little notebook! all refs are wankers its standard issue.

i think we have 2 pks the whole season that is incredible. When you think Milan got 2 pks vs. us and one of them was outside the box.

same as boro we dont get any decisions at all. ever. and we have lost so many points with horrendous decisions against us. fucking shit the premier league for that as well. i know this is from bullshit.com and alot of teams will be after him but if this has any truth to it then you will have a super team next season! (and zampa seems to be able to bring in sought after, quality players)

napoli got linked to him in the january mercato but we got some douche called datolo instead who i havent even seen yet. i hope you do get him like after the weekend i feel like a semi palermo fan a girl i was talking to at a club in cefalu converted me if you catch my drift. and italy has the best women in the world. fact.Posted from

The only good thing is it makes up my mind to put £100 on Juve to win the CL .. they had a backup team on and were away at the fortress and got a 2-0 win without even doing anything. They are 20-1 to win the cl .. 2k return has to be worth a gamble =) Amauri can earn me some money.

and if you get the chance watch a programme called storyville: barca the inside story. i saw it last night on bbc 4 in the uk but it will be on the internet somewhere and it is the best programme ive ever seen on football it shows you everything about barca when laporta took over from signings to how contracts are done with players, to board members falling out. literally everything that you read about in clubs you actually see its crazy and its all on camera they dont hold anything back.

UCL: Once again we’re witnessing all-talk-no-substance Jose’-style calcio. Classic.
