Preview: Palermo – Poor Man’s Juve

By: Steven | September 11th, 2008

Saturday, September 13th, 2008 18.00
Stadio La Favorità, Palermo

Overview

Second game of the season, second coach. A lot has been said about Zampa’s itchy trigger-finger, maybe it’s time to start talking about something else now. We completely missed our start to the season, but so did Roma. We need to win to not be at the end of the table for another week, Roma need to win because 1/6 or 2/6 for a possible scudetto contender would be a shame. And could make Luciano Spaghetti’s life a whole lot harder. Two sides desperately looking for a win…this might be interesting.

Squad Status

Palermo

Marco Amelia was out for a few days (probably a telephone-elbow after calling Succi a couple of times), but he seemed to have recovered. The dude’s a born Romanista, so any sketchy interferences will be punished with me taking a shit in his face. Budan seems to be the only absentee, again.

Dellafiore might be sacrificed for Carrozzieri. DF is a nice guy, but maybe just a little too much. He’ll apologize after a tackle, and never pull a shirt. With La Bestia at the back, the Roma-attackers will most likely end up shirt- and toothless, and covered in spit. Up front, Telephone Boy is most likely starting together with Pussy Can’t Score.

Probable Lineup:
Amelia; Raggi, Carrozzieri, Bovo, Balzaretti; Migliaccio, Liverani, Nocerino; Miccoli, Cavani, Succi

Roma

We don’t care, really. For more on Roma and their lineup, go visit one of Roma’s Offsides.

Probable Lineup:
No idea, depends on the leg-shaving skills of Totti, Mexes’ power to cope with sucking like Kim Kardashian while playing for his country and Aquilani’s recovery after losing his first babytooth last saturday.

Categorical Matchup

RomaBoy vs. Butterfingers :P ush. Any other day, I’d say Amelia. But two weeks ago, he was awful. Buttersfingers versus Butterfingers…sweet line-up.

Young Guns vs. Ugly Hairdo: Palermo. Riise + Mexes in the back. Does that scare you guys? Hell no.

Keep the Turd on the Bench! vs. Double De Rossi: Roma. Face it, we’re worth nothing in midfield and they have the best Italian player of the moment. We’re fucked.

Tragedy Waiting To Happen vs. Yikes: Roma. If I was given a shitload of money that I could spend on one player, it would be Vucinic. I love him and I hate him at the same time, but he’s so good. And all we got against that, is a dude who came out of C1 and a Ur a gay-an with greasy hair and a talent for not having talent.

Final Analysis

Face it guys, 0/6. Roma have a history of being sneaky bitches when it comes to playing at the island, and it will be just like that again. Some deflected De Rossi-canonball or a Taddei tap-in. With a brand new strike force (one nobody else wanted to buy), scoring chances are slim to none.

Nah, we’re always really down on Guana above all. Simplicio can be lazy. I’ve never wanted to be harsh on Bresciano, but last year he seemed to have lost his fire. Hopefully, it’s back this season!

Its been a very good match for Palermo. You guys completely owned the mid field, did well on the 50/50’s, opened up the flanks and basically owned them all day! Could easily have had a few more goals.

Must feel good eh? Considering you were supposed to lose 2 or 3 nothing at the very least… according to most (of them). In 2 separate pools I predicted a draw for one and a Palermo win for the other. I’m sure we’ll be hearing all about their little injury crisis, which is always a poor excuse.

    Well done!!

“I’m sure we’ll be hearing all about their little injury crisis.”

Of course that played a part, no point in denying that. But we shouldn’t use that as an excuse. Injuries are a part of football and a team like Roma should have more than 11 good footballers.

Fadayn and Caroe and anyothers, thanks for the congrats.
What a great game by some names we all thought had lost there way a while back, Simplicio, Bresciano and Cavani all had great days, plus the D was pretty solid, the midfield didn’t get overrun, Amelia didn’t get chipped, and Miccoli played his usual great game, i couldn’t be happier with the performance after the first ten minutes.
