Preview: Palermo B - Palermo
By: Steven | February 8th, 2008
Sunday February 10, 2008
Stadio Olimpico, Torino
Squad Status
Palermo
Hmm…no Zaccardo and no Rinaudo, which means Cassani will get a chance from the start. For the other spots, I’m guessing Biava, Balzaretti and Barzagli. I hope the latter can do for us what he did for the Azzurri this week, instead of another bad game. No signs of Capuano, good times.
Cavani hasn’t been all that hot lately, and he might be replaced by Ozzy Baldy. For the rest, not much has changed, with Simplicio probably still benched in favour of Guana.
Probable Line-up
Fontana; Cassani, Biava, Barzagli, Balzaretti; Guana, Migliaccio, Caserta; Miccoli, Bresciano, Amauri
Torino
Yeah, well, this is looking a lot better. No Dellafiore, Natali, Franceschini or Rubin. The Torino midfield has Pisano and Diana (ha-ha), but up front there’s Roberto Stellone and Rosina. I mean, the kid hasn’t been all over the place like last year, but he’s still a dangerous dude.
Probable Line-up
Sereni; Comotto, Di Loreto, Lanna, Pisano; Diana, Corini, Grella, Lazetic; Rosina, Stellone
Categorical Matchup
Jimmy vs. Tyson: Jimmy. Sereni is about 10 years younger than the Old Dude, but altough he has been at a lot of great clubs he never really played a fantastic season.
It’s out in the open versus Back-up Bonanza: Palermo. Even with Biava in the defense ( I know, he’s gotten better lately) we shouldn’t be as bad as Torino. They miss about every single defender, can’t be good.
Three’s a crowd versus Palermo 2: Palermo. Man, how do I miss Corini. Il Capitano now leads the Torino midfield, but he’s surrounded by two of the biggest goons in football-history: Pisano and Diana. No problems there.
Miccoli and the Boys versus Bald Attack: Push. On paper, Palermo has one of the best attacking partnerships in all of Serie A, but it just doesn’t work. I mean, only one goal against Livorno? We need to shape up right there. Torino’s got Rosina, and we all know how dangerous he is.
Final Analysis
A team that’s buying the people we don’t want anymore because they’re not good enough should be easy to beat. But our last win in Torino dates back to ‘33, with a lame 0-0 last year. If we look at the line-ups and the positions in the table, this should be a walk in the park. To bad Palermo has a bad tendancy to lose games that are classified as walks in the park. We’ll see where we stand on Sunday-evening.
Prediction
0-2. Bresciano header, Miccoli rocket.
MOTM
Eugenio Corini. Just because he’s Corini.

Nice one guys, very nice. Most of you aren’t even worth playing in Serie B.

FU to refs, ATC was offside on that goal. Amauri’s stupid red card then it’s 3-1.

I loves me some Caserta too but let’s be objective man, he is simply unwatchable tonight. Tons of backpasses, passmisses, bad control..etc etc. Simplicio, he played? Guana is, well, Guana. Just as I feared, Balza is affected by Toro curva’s warm welcome. God this team just doesn’t know the word ‘consistency.’ It will be a miracle if we finish anywhere higher than 7th place.

Countdown to Guidolo’s 4th sack. 10, 9, 8,…..

That second half was one of the worst displays of football I have ever seen. Nice job from Amauri as well…next week there’ll be no Amauri and no Miccoli. I just don’t get it: how can a team be so talented and suck so hard on the field at the same time? It’s unbelievable that we’re still only 5 points away from the 6th place and that we haven’t dropped down to the second half of the table.

I give you the answer: it’s becuz we have got no fucking regista! What is the use of having dozens of talented individuals without a person that can lead and effectively tune those talents in action? Corini was core of our midfield, the main playmaker. When you release your most important player you have to find a proper replacement, that’s common sense. Foschi had whole summer and a month to do this and what did he do? Nothing. For this reason I think Foschi’s gotta go along with Guido.

This is the worst day as a fan in a long time.
But I’m gonna agree 100% with Kat. Foschi for all his passion has made some piss poor purchases along with his good ones, and made some bad decisions too. You want to follow all these hot shot Brazilian trequartistas but you put in an offer of like 5 mil for Lucas? Lucas was the final product, he can step into Liverpool’s side and they would actually be better. When Amauri goes we still have fucking Cavani, Jankovic and Miccoli, with De Melo on the way. BUY A GOOD FUCKING MIDFIELDER YOU MORON!!
Guidolin just doesn’t get it either man. Jankovic or Bresciano from the start you moron, you can’t field 4 central midfielders together just b/c we suck in that area. He then proceeds to leave in Guana which is just infuriating. I’ve had it with this team. Until they get a new head coach I won’t be following them.

I’ll miss you dude. See you in a year or 2?

Haha. For real though, I hate Guidolin.
Steve, I meant to ask you before…are you going to Euro2008? I’ll be there for the group stages.

I might fly to Torino and stuff a seltzer joke fire extinguisher down ATC’s throat

Nope, not going there…I don’t have tickets. I am going to the Belgium-Italy exhibition match in May as a consolidation prize.
If you’d pass through Belgium on your way to Swissaustria, lemme know.

I had this silly fantasy that Palermo would rise to greatness this year and we would end up keeping Amauri because he’d want to stay. BUT…that guy seems to get so frustrated out there he wants to kill someone…I guess i’ve come to terms with he is DEF out at the end of the year…

@guiseppe Perhaps he now wants to play in a team where midfielders that actually deliver him the ball.

You’re right kat… We dont have the midfield to even feed him the ball..FUCKING PATHETIC..so what do we do? well, we dont splash the market and fish a midfielder (ala Foggia!?!) We keep playing Guana and rotting Bosko on the bench? I dont get it, I really dont.. There is something we dont know.. I know Zampa is making these decisions via Guido the Puppet, but c’mon, you buy/sell and leave the tactical decisions to someone capable.

ahaha Uncle Zampa has ‘merda’ed Barzagli in his Rai postmatch interview. http://www.inforegioni.rai.it/ram/regioni/sicilia/tgr/20080210new1biftgr_ore_19_30_del_giorno_10_febbraio_2008-sicilia-00.ram
Back to seriousness, ‘course I’m no expert but from what I’ve seen this season Rinaudo seems to have best game-reading ability among our defenders. I think he should be leading the defense instead of Barzagli.

Isn’t that what we’ve been saying all season? Sometimes I dream of Zampa coming over here, reading the comments and finally turn things around. It’s always easy to be commenting from the sidelines, but seriously, anyone of us would be better at coaching this team than Guido is. And where the hell is Lorenzo?

I think Jankovic and Zampa have been at odds about something… something that has lasted all season, that is..

I am a firm believer that if we play Rinaudo centrally, kill Guana and play Janko/Bresciano/Cavani out wide this team is different.

In other news, I think Guana is 1 yellow away from a suspension, so if he gets it this weekend, everyone will see how terrible he is for the team when he’s suspended.

Guana collected one last time which means he’s already suspended.

no, i’m sure he’ll play Tedesco…that seems “logical” right?

Actually he only has 9, I went and counted on the official site. So he will still play. But to reply to Giusep…he would DEFINITELY play Tedesco over Jankovic, smart guy that Guidolin.
