Squad Status

Palermo

Two fantastic wins against teams that are also battling for Europe in a row, and we’re all screaming for a third. This is the moment to take advantage of the Lazio-crisis, but it must happen without Jimmy, who’s still suffering from a knee-injury. Agliardi will most likely take his place, and most of the times, that’s not good. On the other hand, his only good match of last year was against Lazio, where he did some great stuff to give us a 2-1 win, and he didn’t really do anything wrong against Udinese on wednesday. The rest of the squad is in pretty good shape, with only Pisano (thank god for that) still slightly injured. With Guana back in shape, the midfield looks like one mean son of a bitch.

Probable Line-up
Agliardi; Zaccardo, Biava, Barzagli, Capuano; Guana, Migliaccio, Simplicio; Cavani, Miccoli; Amauri

Lazio

Lazio is a wounded animal. And that’s dangerous. This might just be the match that the Phoenix rises from the flames again, and it’s our job not to let that happen. They suck in Serie A, only one away-win up to now, they’re eliminated in Europe, and things aren’t really going well within the team, with lots of discontent and fights. Added to that: capital injuries! No Goran Pandev, no Behrami and no Zauri. And old man Ballotta in the goal. This, ladies and gentlemen, is our chance to give Lazio a final blow and take a big option on European football next year.

Probable Line-up
Ballotta; Scaloni, Siviglia, Cribari, De Silvestri; Mudingayi, Ledesma, Mutarelli; Mauri; Makinwa, Rocchi

Categorical Matchup

Young Gun vs. Abraham: Push. Ballotta and Agliardi are both well known for their sketchy goalkeeping. Ballotta might have experience, but Agliardi knows that this is the moment to show the Palermitani that he’s not a big, ugly flycatcher.

The One Legged Bandit versus Back-up Backline: Palermo. We still have a 2 good/2 less good-player defense, but the Lazio-backline is even worse. On the other hand, we kept Udinese and Fiorentina from scoring, and Atalanta needed a deflected ball to score. Lookin’ good.

The Three Musketeers versus The Three Musketeers: Push. Lazio has a great midfield, but ours has been kickin’ ass lately. I only miss Caserta in the line-up.

Trident Madness versus He Who Failed In Palermo: Palermo. Rocchi is fuckin’ dangerous, but he’s accompanied by Makinwa. I mean, Makinwahahahaha. We’ve got AMauri, Miccoli and Cavani. I’m wetting my pants already.

Final Analysis

This is THE game. 9/9 would be fantastic, and we need it. Lazio is weak, but we shouldn’t underestimate them. If I was Guido, I’d go on an attacking spree.

Prediction

2-0. Amauri tap-in, Caserta header.

Sono Bello, Sono Sano, Mia Madre Mi Ha Fatto Palermitano!

I gotta tell you, I think you’re underestimating Lazio. The scoreline against Juve in no way reflected how well they played, and they were good against Catania, as well. Not having Pandev is a big blow, but I bet you they’ll give the boys in pink quite a game.

Aaaaahh Palermo… my second favorite team in Italy. :)

I predict an easy job for Palermo. lazio are way too weak. Plus as you said, Pandev is not playing.

Good luck and I hope Palermo wins (for a double joy).

Steven, did Migliacccio come off injured? I see Caserta replaced him at the 25th. Good to see Palermo up 1-0, the game isn’t on TV however, and I’m watching the Milan derby. How are Palermo playing?

It’s Lazio, so it’s never ‘really bad’, but it’s the Lazio 2007, so it’s still bad enough…

Glad that Biava left that guy wide open on that equalizer. They simply just let the game go, they already thought they won. I can’t believe Amauri skied a penalty.

BAHHH that last goal Capuano got burned, I just went back and watched it again. Defense looked terrible on those two goals. Oh well, take a little break, let Migliaccio heal because we need him immensely, and try to break Sampdoria in half when we come back.

Zampa please buy us a left back!

Forget the LB, forget the GK. Our No#1 priority this winter market should be a holding midfielder. Migliaccio is fundamental and indispensable element to the squad. As soon as he got carried off the field, we began to lose order and balance in the midfield, lose possessions, and as consequence the defense suffered too. The problem that day was that we had no adequate sub to replace him. The medical team has spoken and Giulio’s injury turns out to be a mere bruising and thank god for that, but this should serve as a wakeup call to Foschi&Co and thus get a proper back-up MF for Giulio this winter. Or else, we might soon find ourselves in some deep shit. Remember the Amauri-incident and let us not commit the mistake we made last year.

Can’t help but agree with you Kat. If Giulio goes down, our season is in real trouble. Let’s hope Guidolin can convince Foschi and Zampa to get us a backup defensive midfielder. Caserta is a great player but definitely not a holding player, Migliaccio is honestly one of the best ball winners in Serie A. The guy is quick, agressive and passes very well too.
