Preview: Gobbi - Palermo
By: Steven | November 22nd, 2007Sunday November 25th, 2007
Stadio Olimpico, Torino
Squad Status
Palermo
So, we had a two week rest and we’re still missing half the midfield. Good Ole’ Giulio will be back to conquer midfield again, but Caserta has gotten injured during the international matches. Wonder how, as I don’t see Retardo ever getting into Donadonadonadoni’s squad. Furthermore, Miccoli is also still injured. So he’ll be missing out on the team that practically threw him out on the street because ‘his level of play wasn’t good enough’. Right. Bresciano is also out, but with Migliacci back in place, I don’t think we’ll miss his whining ass. Amauri returns to the attack after being suspended against Napoli, and he’ll probably be paired up with Franco Fantastico. I think Colantuono is going for a 3-5-1-1, which I find threathening seeing that keeping our nets clean seems like mission impossible this season. Let’s just hope one of these three defenders isn’t Giuseppe Biava…
Probable Line-up
Fontana; Zaccardo, Rinaudo, Barzagli; Diana, Tedesco, Simplicio, Migliaccio, Capuano; Brienza, Amauri
Juventus
Giorgio Chiellini is banned for the game. Good for our players, now they won’t have to be afraid being speared to that god-afwul, gigantic, monstrous, hideous Pinnochio-nose of his. Rafaele Palladino, aka. The Boy Wonder, will be replaced by Pavel Nedved. Yeey again. Be prepared for a lot of bitching, whining, spitting, diving and looking if his nails haven’t broken yet. Criscito will probably have to make room for Cristian Molinaro, and let’s hope so. For more info on their lousy heap…i mean, team, get over to Roberto and Sofia.
Probable Line-up
Buffon; Birindelli, Grygera, Legrottaglie, Molinaro; Camoranesi, Nocerino, C Zanetti, Nedved; Trezeguet, Del Piero
Categorical Matchup
Goalie- Push: Yeah, Yeah…I know…Gigi ‘Look, I’m wearing a shirt that says 88 on it’ Buffon is our national keeper. Keeper Schmeeper, Fontana has been saving everything that has been shot in his direction, so there’s no need to be afraid. Lots of age difference, not much quality difference lately.
Defense- Palermo: Zacc, Barzagli, Rinaudo: nice. Grygera, Legrottaglie and Birindelli: ouch. With Migliaccio keeping an eye on the defense, we’ll lock those prisonboys down.
Midfield- Palermo: Camoranesi is the biggest threat coming out of the Rubentus-midfield, but if we play like against Napoli, we’ll be able to neutralize him. If Colantuono would just get rid of Capuano…
Forwards- Push: Trezeguet has scored 10 goals already. Too bad he’s got old Ale ‘Boohoo, Don said i’m too old to be an Azzurri-striker’ Del Piero alongside of him. Ain’t gonna work playing together. We got Amauri, who’ll want to show himself to the big clubs, and Franco. Seems like an equal game.
Final Analysis
If you guys are watching the game come sunday, don’t be afraid. Hell won’t have frozen over. It’s just 30.000 Palermitani sitting among the Gobbi, selling out the Olimpico for the first and only time this season. I don’t know about the rest of you, but for me, this is the game of the year. To hell with the Catania and Cagliari-derbies, the match against those filthy, scudetto-stealin’, ‘no love for the game’-a’holes is my equivalent of the Second World War. And if the Almighty Renzo Barbera is on our side at 20.30 sunday night, this’ll be Juve’s Stalingrad. Two years ago, the smallest and least loved team from Torino came to the Barbera with all of their arrogance, only to be able to win the game 1-2 after two gigantic errors by the referee. It’s payback time. Payback time for stealing the victory, payback time for stealing the competition, and payback time for that lost Coppa Italia-final some 30 years ago. Yeah, I said it. Stealing. There, i did it again. I’ll stop now, the hate is strong with this one.
So, a final analysis…Amauri said it, and I have little to contribute to that:
“They are stronger than us, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t win
As they say, it’s never over until Agnelli takes out his cellphone, but I do believe we have a chance of taking at least one point home from this one.
Prediction
I see an attacking Palermo, lots of chances for Trezeguet, and even more nice saves. I say 1-2, goals by Trezeguet, Amauri and a dubious penalty decision perfectly converted by Il Fantastico.
To close this thing of, and before the vicious war with the Juventus-Offside starts, here’s some stuff to lift your spirits:

SPONSOR!!!! LET’S BUY DIEGO!
kat, I think Vargas will be about 8-10 mil. If Bresciano goes, his sale can largely cover that cost. 8-10 mil might seem like a lot, but Vargas can instantly complete our side. It’s the only real hole we have, and he would be one of the best attackers on our team.

Pramac…sounds like a birth-control thing to me. Still, it’s better than the Mandi-shirts from last year.

Fantastic news from Channel 4:

worst Palermo game I’ve watched all season. We need Migliaccio on for Guana…can Guana even make a straight pass? I know he wins a lot of balls but he just can’t pass.

FUCK MAN!!! DIANA PISANO AND GUANA GET OFF THE PITCH RIGHT NOW!!!! COLANTUONO DO SOMETHING AT HALFTIME!

Seriously, what’s happening? Agliardi, Guana, Pisano…we’re lucky that it’s only 2-0…

unless Caserta was hurt, there was no point in taking him off. Migliaccio and Bresciano should come on for Pisano and Guana…

5-0. I’m starting an anti-Colantuono organisation, anyone care to join? No new coach by next week, and I’m boycotting the team.

I hope the team plane leaves Pisano, Guana, Diana and Agliardi in Torino. This really wasn’t Colantuono’s fault because Juve just straight outplayed us…but he got his tactics dead wrong and his substitutions were even worse…Diana thanks for the time bud, but i’d rather have Nonno Tedesco on the field at this point…

Steven, let’s just blame this one on Barzagli’s pre-game blunder, ahhaha.

The whole midfield was shit today. 0 shot in the 1st half, 0! Can you believe it? Subs were all kinds of wrong too. Bresciano being totally useless as usual. Diana should never ever ever play wing-back. At one point even Zac seemed to have reached his breaking points. Have you guys seen him leaving his post making that run for a cross? lol

If Catecchiono doesn’t ditch this wing-play bullshit in next couple of weeks, yep, I’m all for it Steven.

fucking terrible, Agliardi is the worst and diana should of been the first sub out

Steven, I couldn’t understand your preview. You gave Palermo a push or a win at each position and then wrote that you would be happy with a draw. I sure hope that you still don’t think this is the biggest match of the year.

Colantuono’s biggest problem is that he doesn’t put the best 11 players on the field. He tries to fit his players into a formation and not make a formation around his players. Pisano and Diana should never break into the starting 11…I don’t care how bad Rinaudo’s worst game is, it can’t be as bad as Pisano’s. Diana is well past it…If Zaccardo wasn’t on the team he could play RB but he’s only good as a defensive replacement. He hurts our offensive flow more than anyone on the team. Brienza is our version of Foggia, he should be out on the right wing, use his pace and skill to cut inside and create openings for Amauri and Cavani. It’s obvious this team isn’t ready for the Champions League and it’s not due to a lack of talent. Biava > Rinaudo is mind boggling.
When Colantuono’s style works it really works, but when it doesn’t its awful. I still stand by the fact that this team should be playing a 4-2-3-1 with the BEST players possible. That means no Diana, no Pisano, no Guana…unless shit hits the fan. If we aren’t gonna go anywhere I’d rather give Jankovic the chance to shine rather than letting him rot.

C’mon Pramac, lets shell out the dough and get Mourhino. no seriously.

KJ much respect man. Palermo is definitely a better team then the score line suggests. It would have been different game entirely if Miccoli was there in Colantuono’s place, no doubt.

As much as everyone hates on Juve their squad is quality all around and IMO you don’t get much better than the Tinkerman. So a loss to them isn’t the end of the world. Now that I’m calmed down from that disgusting performance I’ve realized what needs to be done.
Colantuono has reason to be fired on that game alone. Not only did he get his tactics wrong, his XI was awful and his subs were appalling. Caserta, easily Palermo’s best midfielder in the 1st half was taken off. Guana, the worst midfielder (not counting Aimo the Clown), was left in the pivotal holding role, which basically destroyed any chance we had of turning things around. Bresciano was the right sub but Brienza was easily the most up for it. I was screaming at the TV around 30 minutes to get Guana off. Diana is one thing, he plays on the right and doesn’t have a HUGE impact. To leave Guana in central mid in that game was purely criminal. He must have completed 1 of every 5 passes. If Palermo went to the Champions League with Guana as our holding midfielder we’d get laughed at. Caserta has the flair, toughness, talent, quality to fill this role without a problem.
Colantuono has a classy personality but I’m not so sure he’s the tactician everyone is claiming him to be. Atalanta are certainly doing fine without him, while our form is extremely spotty. I’m with KJ…Mourinho or another big name coach at all costs. Let’s start attracting some friggin players. I’m sick of Aimo, Pisano, Capuano, Agliardi and Guana doing my team dirty.

I think Mourinho might be waaaaaay to high, but what about Martin Jol? He’s a fantastic coach…
