Preview: Bergamaschi di Merda – Palermo
By: Steven | December 14th, 2007
Sunday December 16th, 2007
Stadio Atleti Azzurri D’ Italia, Bergamo
Squad Status
Palermo
All boosted up after last week’s fantastic win over Viola, Palermo is now like a Toyota Supra on Noz. The only thing that needs to happen now, is someone pushing that Nitro-button to unleasg the power. That someone will not be Fabio Simplicio: last week’s Man of the Match is banned for the match against Atalanta, so he’ll be replaced by Guana. Hopefully, it’s last week’s Guana, and not the one from before. Good news as well: Caserta returns after his suspension, so the left side is covered again. The Serbian Stallion and Melbourne Baldy will probably warm the bench again, while Guidolin is likely to go with the same attacking trio that ripped up things last week. Ain’t no complaining about that. Also, we probably won’t be a seeing a starting spot for Rinaudo. What’s Guido’s problem here?
Probable Line-up
Fontana; Zaccardo, Biava, Barzagli, Capuano; Guana, Migliaccio, Caserta; Cavani, Amauri, Miccoli
Atalanta
Kicking off with the good news: no Doni, Costinha or Zampagna! Ferreira Pinto, easily Atalanta’s best player in 2007, might also miss out because of a slight injury. Probable starting spot for Simone Inzaghi (ha-ha) and Simone Padoin. Still, this is a side that only lost to Juve with 1-0, and are in the same place as we are. Dangerous.
Probable Line-up
Coppola; Rivalta, Capelli, Carrozzieri, Bellini; Ferriera Pinto, De Ascentis, Padoin, Langella; Floccari, S.Inzaghi
Categorical Matchup
Jimmyeh! vs. Who?: Jimmy. Coppola has been playing great this season, but Jimmy’s playing with so much confidence that it’s hard not to give him the upper hand. Seen his saves against Fiorentina?
The One Legged Bandit versus Pure Mediocrity: Push. The Atalanta-defense doesn’t consist of big names, but they have been playing great. Our defense is half good, half terrible, altough Capuano showed some class last week. Still, don’t see why Cyrano is still in that line-up. Hello mister Invisible!
The Three Musketeers versus The Four Horsemen: Palermo. Guana (if he has found his fighting spirit again), Caserta AND Migliaccio, backed up by Mighty Mouse. I’d shit my pants if I were to face that line-up.
Throbbing Boner versus Floppycock: Palermo. Inzaghi? Ha-ha. (that’s my second time, you’ll see him score this weekend, wanna bet?). Miccol, Amauri, reborn Cavani…I see lots of danger here.
Final Analysis
Winning against Atalanta is crucial. Why? We’re tied at 21 points, we need another win to return to the winning streak, and we can’t let Udinese and Fiorentina run away. This said, it’s possible. Most of the rosanero are back from suspension or injury, and Atalanta is missing out on three crucial players. Add the missing Curva to that, and I can definitely see us running away with three points here. If they would just keep their heads together…
Prediction
1-2. Amauri heads in a corner, Cavani unleashes a mighty volley, Inzaghi dives and gets a penalty.
Sono Bello, Sono Sano, Mia Madre Mi Ha Fatto Palermitano!

On Sunday, we’re gonna be facing one angry home-side thus I’m expecting a very difficult match. Whatever the results may be, guys just don’t let S. Inzaghi score. Do please avoid this utter humiliation at all cost.

Kat, maybe you’re right, Biava did nothing wrong last week, but he was soooooooooo invisble. I think I have only seen him make one action or so. And I agree on the Diana thing: I was extactic when we signed him, now I just think he sucks.

You know you’ve just guaranteed that Inzaghi the Younger will get his first career hat trick this weekend, right? I think I’m going to watch the match now, because I won’t be able to believe it unless I see it with my own eyes.
(And totally concur with the good thoughts on Guana. Since Corini left, he’s taking over the widely desired title of my favorite Palermo Bald.)

Urm, I was actually referring to Zaccardo on that last sentence. Sorry for causing confusion. Aimo, as a player is just a joke. As long as he and Pisano steer clear from our midfield, we’re good.

HAHA. Aimo as a player is just a joke. Classic. You’re also right about Santana dominating Zaccardo, but he did that to Nesta a few times earlier this year too. Skilled little player. Just a huge douchebag.
If we don’t dominate this game I’ll be a little upset. Caserta should be able to showcase some offensive skills he had at Catania last season, with the two baldies ripping ppls heads in the midfield. Let’s see how we can do without Simplicio.

Zaccardo is out.

Which means Rinaudo or Cassani in his place. Atalanta hasn’t lost at home in a year, it’s time to turn things around and get our vengeance for what Del Neri did two seasons ago.

i live in the us so what channels do you guys watch the games on i could only see the goals from rai, and Fox soccer channel will occasionally play a palermo game or 2 every six months but when rai’s not playing them where does everyone watch it?

unfortunately I think RAI and FSC are the only television options. However, when Palermo aren’t on TV you can buy the game from SerieA.tv, the games cost like 6 each or something.
What a win for Palermo! Leapfrogging Atalanta and pulling closer to a CL spot. I called my grandfather on the phone and he said “Palermo are for real again!” Couldn’t agree more. Guidolin has given this team a B12 shot, and he picks the right formation constantly…something Colantuono didn’t ever do. Lazio next week…let’s make sure we stick it to the facists!

If we can close out Lazio next week, we go into break with an outside shot at Champions League. (Does anybody remember Lazio’s second half surge last year?) If Zampa makes a couple moves, I still think we can do it. We are finally showing some of the fire power that we knew we had!

Vargas would be a sweet addition. Calaio wouldn’t be bad either
