I'm a big Amauri-lover, but if I can choose between 5 more years of him and five more Barzagli-years, I'm going for Barzagli. Amauri is an awesome striker, but he's not one of the top-strikers, while Barzagli is one of the top defenders.

The thing about Barzagli is that ppl seem to be setting his price pretty low. He's only 26, and everyone knows the Italian defenders stay strong well into their 30s. The big teams simply don't rate him. Why were Inter, Barca and Real all over Chivu for nearly 20 million and Zampa can't seem to get 15 for Barzagli. Putting set pieces aside(Chivu's left foot), Barzagli is 10X the defender Chivu is. 30 mil for Pepe? There's no way Pepe is twice the player of Barzagli. Fact is Barzagli is in the upper echelon of CBs right now, I don't see how teams won't pay the asking price. I don't really buy the fact that his performances on the national team are helped my Cannavaro. Cannavaro physically, is much better than Barzagli even though he's smaller. He wins everything that comes right at him in the air and on the ground. Shit goes haywire for Cannavaro when it comes to reading the game. Barzagli can read the game as well as anyone, and is very fluid on the ball. I think his performances actually help Cannavaro, and the reason why he's playing mediocre at Real is because he needs that guy who can read the game and help him out.

You're right Ricci...I forgot about that point about being satisified with a draw. Or remember when he said they would be happy with a UEFA Cup spot this season? C'mon man, set the bar a little higher..

I’ve seen Barzagli play with the national team on several occasions. His play against Scotland was superb, and in my opinion he will be the top defender in the world. Against Fiorentina, I finally saw the same skill that he displays for the national side. With the same attacking defense that was played on Saturday, he will continue to demonstrate the same ability. With that said, I believe he has great selling value and can bring a lot back for Palermo. Where Amauri in my opinion will not bring the same value back. In addition his lost, I agree, will change Palermo for the worst. His style brings a much-needed flare to the team. But for Palermo to succeed they need both. Amauri does so much to help the team (teaching Cavani, etc…) and Barzagli for all the grief he takes from the fans for the weekly comments still went out on Saturday and played a hell-of-a-game.

Amauri hands down. Amauri is definitely blossoming late, but I think he can be one of the best players in the world. Behind Zlatan, he is the best striker in Italy.

Barzagli may be a great CB but I honestly think this team could sell him and not miss him too much. We sell Amauri and our style and formation need to change. Next season if Bovo comes back, with Rinaudo and Biava, we can get a decent replacement and be ok at that position. Plus, Barzagli is always saying he wants to leave. Before big games Barzagli is saying that the team would be happy with a draw, while Amauri is claiming the team need to win. Amauri plays with flair and is always seen smiling and helping other players. Wherever Amauri goes, I'll cheer him on. I just hope he stays with us.

Ok, guys, this blog has been a little slow. I want to pose a hypothetical question to you all.

Who would you rather have on the roster next season, Barzagli or Amauri?

If you would have asked me this question a month ago or even months ago, I would have hands down claimed Barzagli. Now, I have changed my mind. I think Amauri is more valuable to the team. Amauri is magical on the ball and has charisma on the field. When squabbles occur on the field, opposing players go to Amauri, not Barzagli. That says something. Now don't get me wrong, I think Barzagli has unlimited potential. But it seems he's more worried about his next destination than where he's at. I also don't like how he's handled the media. He is our captain, after all. He could be a legend, but I don't think he's all to interested in that. Here adleast.

Guidolin managed a perfect match. Miccoli was tired 30 minutes into the game, bringing on someone who plays a little more defense but still attacks was very smart. Guana + Migliaccio in midfield gives us more steel, and they let the other guys play creatively and not get tired playing defense. Capuano played well, I actually think the guy has some skill but he gets too nervous. Having him on the field is a liability but until we get a proper left back he's ok. Zaccardo attacked really well because he didn't have to worry about players running at him full speed after destroying Aimo the Clown. Cavani on the right wing = awesome. Can't wait for the weekend to see the boys cause some more havoc.

Hey! I like Guido's jumpsuits! hahaha

I still am awestruck over Amauri's no-look pass. it was ridiculous! And Simplicio's play was excellent! It was truly a very satisfying victory.

Big test in Bergamo! But if Palermo are anywhere close to what they were on Saturday, you should be able to ring up another 3 punti!

The scary thing, Steven, is that I'm 95% sure he's actually LOST weight. You should have seen him when he arrived at camp this summer.
