Palermo ‘09 > Palermo ‘08
By: Steven | August 24th, 2009
Overview:
Expectations were high, the opposition was dangerous, the team was new and history was against us. Still, the Boys in Pink did what had to be done: beat Napoli. First half may have been a one-sided affair with a lucky goal at the end, but all is fair in love and football. Thanks to Rinus Michels for that.
Starting the season with three points is fantastic, especially when you look at the other results and you see that the other competitors for spots 3-6 didn’t do all that well: Roma lost, Udinese tied, Napoli lost and Fiorentina tied. Only Genoa managed to win. And that makes this start all the better.
What I Liked:
Javier Pastore. Great debut from the young Argie, against a team that knows how to handle Argies.
Cavani and Miccoli, starting with one goal each. These guys love eachother.
One game, one win. Love the feeling.
What I Didn’t Like:
Santa Fabio. How many bad passes could you give?
Rubinho. Just like Amelia last season, his season kicks off with some small errors.
Pagelle:
RUBINHO: 5.5. Didn’t look all that secure to me.
BALZARETTI: 6.5. Same as always: trustworthy. Great game, without really excelling.
CASSANI: 6.5. Dito. Could have gone a little more into attack.
KJAER: 7. Leader of the defense at what, 20? Kept Lavezzi out of the game.
BOVO: 6.5. Kept Quaglia out, don’t think he’ll keep his starting spot.
NOCERINO: 6.5. Hard worker, could become a big player in midfield this season.
SIMPLICIO: 5. Time to sell him. Too inconsistent to be a contributing part of the team.
BRESCIANO: 6.5. Didn’t fuck up, seems to be more secure as a DM than an AM.
PASTORE: 7.5. Great debut from the Kid. Him, Cavani and Kjaer are the future of this team.
NONNO: SV. Motivated. That’s all. Why not give a young player a chance?
BUDAN: SV. Didn’t look too fat.
MICCOLI: 7. Ero Siciliano. What would we be without him?
CAVANI: 8. Hardest working man in Sicily yesterday. This is his year. MOTM.
All. Zenga: 6.5. Excellent day for him. I’ve almost forgiven him the Catania-past.
Giornata 1’s Androberto Guarraciolo Award:
Cristian Maggio. Brainfarts on a football field, and what they can do to your team.
Impressions:

“Hmm…would tapping his ass after my first game in charge would be inappropriate?”

“The groundskeeper is not going to like this…”

“Say ‘What’ one more time, motherfucker! Say ‘What’ one more time!”

“So this is what they mean by ‘Same shit, different day’…”

Looks like Palermo and Blasi’s agent have reached an agreement. Now there just needs to be a deal made with Napoli.
I have very mixed feelings about this move.

idk if its just me, but blasi sounds like another gattuso which i personally would love having on my team and just like gattuso does he could possibly “scare” the offense the other way…and in lus we could play him if bertolo flops and i think liverani needs to go considering he’s wayyyyyyyyyyyy past his prime

Pino, Liverani came on quite strong last year and was instrumental in the mid

Yeah, Pino, but “sounds” is different than “plays”. Hey, I’m just saying I don’t know if it’ll be a worthwhile signing, but I’ll reserve the judgment till he plays in rosanero.

Blasi is a poor fallback for Dzemaili, just like Juve going for Melo over D’Agostino. Just the wrong fit of a center-midfielder, Palermo has plenty of uncreative ball-winners in the midfield

seriously, nocerino can do what blasi does and then some. i dont see blasi as a strong regista, and we have plenty of defensive-minded midfielders

agree with the poor fallback, but at this point in the mercato I’d rather get something than nothing at all. Blasi also plays very smart, doesn’t try to do to much with the ball and understands his role for the team.
It never hurts to have depth, and Blasi is not a bad player by any means. He also sits deeper and plays more centrally than Nocerino and speaking frankly, can control a game and tackles much harder than Antonio. If you look at the games that Blasi has played for Napoli over the past few seasons, when he DOESN’T play they struggle a lot.

Lorenzo, Sounds good! We can get some Pannini con Miltz! Then go to the game! Who you going with?
I love that food! Pannelli, Miltz, Musso, Ritzi, Polpo, Gelato… oh man! Can’t spell in Italian worth a shit though!Posted from

If we let Napuli take Dzemaili in order to get effing Blasi I’d wanna pull Sab’s tarred insides out.

Yeh i’d be pissed if they got him and we got Blasi. For some reason I feel like Cairo is just being a prick for no reason and Dzemaili will end up being his slave in Torino.

DeLa is apparently on crack; they asked 3.5M for half Blasi. Vaffa..

and he wonders why we cant get rid of any players…
Posted from

That’s crazy money but no lie Blasi is probably better then most of our current midfielders.

aight 3.5 for half is ridiculous, just go for Dzemaili now

If I remember correctly, Juve sold him to Napoli for 6mil, 3mil on coownership and then resolved for them.

Get Dzemaili eh?
Well, there is some interesting news out of Torino. Actually, I’m reading into things – I haven’t seen anything exactly spelled out. Torino just got rid of a striker (Amoruso) who went to Parma. They also just received two more midfielders.
This leads me to believe two things: a packed midfield means that Dzemaili IS leaving. It’s just a matter of to who. Secondly, (and this is pure, unadulterated speculation) could the exit of a striker finally allow Torino to bring in Succi? Wasn’t that the whole deal before? Yeah, they liked Succi, but they were crowded up top? I hope so, but then again, I’m not holding my breath.

I saw that too zo. At least this year our management realizes we need help in midfield.
