No way, more rumors?
By: kevin | August 23rd, 2007The rumor mill continues to churn and we’re only a few days from opening kickoff. Now most of this comes courtesy of transfermarketweb.com, so my advice is to use this information at your own discretion. (Basically what I’m trying to say is they have more rumors than a high school hallway) But for speculatory purposes, I will explore each rumor hypothetically.

Inter wants Zaccardo or Barzagli- Now I definitely believe this one because this rumor has been circulating for a few days. And now that the lone Italian starter for Inter Marco Materazzi is injured until possibly 2008, I’m sure the push for Christian and Andrea is even stronger now. Yet, Mr. Zampa & Co. has vehemently claimed that Zaccardo and Barzagli are going nowhere. Zampa may be nuts, but he is usually pretty truthful on where he stands. Personally, I say slap a 10 million price tag on Zaccardo and let’s see what happens. Barzagli should be off limits as he was recently named team captain and a critical key to success this season. After Zampa dumped money into Miccoli and Jankovic, I don’t think this was done in vain.

Heerenveen acquire Matusiak- Only awaiting an official announcement, the Dutch club has done us a favor. Never really panning out, there is no room on the roster for Matusiak. Palermo has been trying to unload this guy for days now and it looks like goal has been finally accomplished. To further the speculation, Palermo might be interested in the 20 year old starlet Victor Obinna from relegated Chievo to replace him. I seriously doubt this would go through as Fiorentina are also tracking him. But, I wouldn’t mind adding another stud striker to the depth chart.

Parma wants Brienza- Parma has expressed interest in the striker. This could be a real possibility since Parma really needs a striker and we have a surplus. I wouldn’t really be high on this deal for a couple of reasons. I think he is a solid player who I’d feel confident coming into games at key times. I would also want to see him slip into an attacking midfielder’s role to add depth to the position especially if we lose Bresciano to Man City.

Amauri + Italia National Team? - Yes, the rumor is floating around again according to Amauri’s agent, Mariano Grimaldi. (Ironic the timing of this, eh?) Grimaldi stated that Amauri has never said no to joining the Azzurri. Is he waiting for a formal invitation or what? I know the debate goes back and forth on this one, but if they broke the rule for Camoranesi, why not him? I also wouldn’t mind seeing him stick it to his homeland in 2010. Oh yeah, that 3-1 drubbing to Hungary might figure into it too!
