New Bid for Amelia?
By: kevin | August 21st, 2007
Palermo appears to be back in line for Azzurri goalie Marco Amelia. It is now apparent that Livorno is adamant about unloading Amelia. Why? I have no idea other than money issues. After Serie A’s second leading scorer Christiano Lucarelli left earlier in the transfer season, Amelia is their only bright spot on a club that might fight relegation now.
Since a deal was stalled with Manchester City, Livorno chairman Spinelli may be willing to sell domestically even though he previously stated he wanted a foreign move. The move is still hinging on Manchester City’s ability to purchase the player in the near future. And by that, I’m assuming if City owner Thaksin Shinawatra clears up his legal troubles and actually has money to spend. Hopefully, our chances are good then. According to Rosanerohome.it, Livorno is requiring the 4 million transfer fee plus Agliarde and Matteini. I’d take that in a New York minute if I were Zamparini & Co. As I’ve wrote in other blogs, the one weakness I see for Palermo in the forthcoming season is goalie Alberto Fontana. He’s alright, but he’s 40 YEARS OLD!! I mean c’mon, how durable can he be? I would love to see Amelia in the pink and black!!

I agree that Amelia would be a nice addition. I must also tell you that some goalies are still capable of playing at a high level even at the age of 40!!!
