Miccoli’s Magic
By: kevin | September 26th, 2007Palermo 2 Milan 1

An injury time goal stunned the visiting Milan as Miccoli continues to work his magic. Down 1-0 until the 73 minute, Palermo’s two second half goals allowed them to collect 3 points again and gave them their first victory at home. Palermo has moved up in the standings to a tie for 3rd, only 1 behind Serie A leaders Roma and Inter.
Brief Analysis
Milan thoroughly outplayed the Rosanero the first half and beginning of the second. Palermo lacked possession and couldn’t get anything going on the counter. Milan had numerous chances to score but only managed an early strike from Seedorf. The game changed in the second with the substitution of Cavani and Jankovic. The young duo gave an instant burst of energy to the home side as Palermo finally began to pressure the Milan backside. Tactically, it was a brilliant move by Colantuono especially considering the older legs of Milan. I think we have found the best way to utilize Cavani. The first Palermo goal wasn’t without a little controversy though. Before Diana finished, the ball appeared to hit Amauri’s arm. Milan’s appeals went to the wayside, however. After a closer look, it still looks to me like it hit his shoulder. (no biases, of course) Nevertheless, the momentum changed hands and Miccoli struck a brilliant free kick in injury time to seal the deal. This guy is lethal on those set pieces. It will amaze me if he doesn’t get an Azzurri call up.
If Palermo reaches the CL, it will be because they were able to win close games at home against top level teams. It also means they were able to get 3 points away from home against the lower table teams. Hence, this Sunday @ Empoli. Savor this victory, but be prepared for Sunday.
Man of the Match Andrea Barzagli- Even though Miccoli scored the winner, it was Barzagli’s brilliant stopper play that kept Palermo in the game. He won numerous 50/50’s and turned the defense into attack. Palermo fans have to rejoice because this kind of play has been expected for a long time.

Anthony, would be be able to she any more light as to the details of that Hong Kong feed?
Unfortunately, I cannot access Serie A TV and am limited to following the game via radio stream of the official Palermo web site and You Tube highlights the following day.
Or any other suggestions of access to streaming live vision would be appreciated too (n.b. i have an imac).
Also, il grande Palermo have done it again!! Bravi!!
However, that defence of ours … minchia it stresses me out sometimes! Barzagli can’t do it all. We still need to tighten up a hell of a lot more.

we’re tied for second, not third.

Rose, there are two teams ahead of us in points. Therefore, we are tied for third.

If Micolli doesn’t get a call up it’ll just reaffirm how much of an idiot Donadoni is. Oh, wait, we didn’t need any more affirmations did we? He’s a beast. Well put, Greg.

Anthony, thanks for your advice, however, it seems the required software is not yet available for Macs.
And back onto our latest match, it astounds me that virtually every article in the media has concentrated on Milan’s loss rather the Palermo’s win. I mean we just beat the European Champions!! Miccoli should have been on the front page of the Gazetta … he is easily the next big thing for Italy.

Roberto, it is probably a role that will suit Palermo well this season. As much as we want to be respected by the so-called “big” clubs, the underdog tag will be motivation. I mean, in reality, almost the whole club has been disrespected in some sort of way.
Miccoli-sold to Palermo for nothing
Zaccardo-left to rot in Palermo because a larger club didnt want to fork out some money (poor him)
Amauri-teams didnt want to chance him because of the knee(can’t blame that)
And if you look at preseason predictions, most had them finishing lower than last year. So don’t take them seriously, fine with me. I want that CL spot!Posted from

And if dumbass Donadoni doesn’t want Miccoli, screw him too

I’m from a small town in sicily so we’re palermo fans and milan fans and i personally love these games because no matter who wins I walk away satisfied because both of my favorite teams were together. I know it sounds weird but whatever. Palermo played excellent and deserved to win. The fans went wild after the second goal….oh what I wouldn’t give to be there for the actual game it must be so cool…
