Here We Go, Coppa-Style

By: Steven | August 22nd, 2008

Well, that seems like a nice start to the 2008-2009 campaign, doesn’t it? Tomorrow we kick off the new season against Ravenna in the Coppa Italia, or should we say TIM-Cup? I have no fuckin’ clue who will be in the starting eleven, but thanks to StadioNews I found some trivia for the game.

* Our last two encounters with Ravenna were in ‘96. We beat them 2-0 in Serie B, but were eliminated 3-1 in the Coppa.

* Ravenna-coach Gianluca Atzori finished his career in rosanero in ‘03-’04, playing 17 games in Serie B and one in the Coppa.

* Ravenna eliminated Rimini with penalties in the last round, after a 3-3 game.

And something non-Coppa related: Thiago Neves has signed for Athletico Madrid. 12 million euros. Asshole.

    Pasquale –

Funny you should mention that because that’s exactly what I was planning on doing. Give me a day or so, but I’ll set it up and then send out a message on here for a league. Sound good?

After the embarrassing coppa results, Zampa will meet Sabatini tomorrow to discuss a possible signing for reinforcement in…the attacking department. Yeah you heard me right, they’re now officially chasing another punta. And along with Floccari, Diego Milito and Vonlanthens names are being thrown around. Hate to sound so damn pessimistic but I’m starting to lose hopes. Will these idiots ever learn? Attacking force is the least problem we’ve got. Without some major renewal in the midfield we ain’t going nowhere, and anyone but sorry excuse of a management of ours can see that. Simplicio, Bresciano and Guana are all nothing but salary-devouring cancercells to this team and they gotta be kicked out immidiately. Full stop.

kat – i hear you for sure. I am still baffled that none of our management sees the midfield for what it is…not only do we have the same type of midfielders, we don’t have that many to begin with!

Nah just kidding but if you look at Catania’s midfield and then look at ours, Catania’s will dominate ours all day.

Yeh but that’s not the teams fault. Team has the talent to finish top 8 but with a brainless monkey at the helm still playing Guana and the 4-3-3 we will finish 14th without a doubt.

ok, now Sky is saying we’re after Suazo. Once again, people, it’s the MIDFIELD, stupid! How many attackers do we need? I mean, Suazo is a nice name and all, but seriously, we need midfield help!!!

    So frustrating…

I can already see Week 1’s “Guaracciolo” going to Palermo management.

Get Zico in here. He will have Guana doing Cruyff turns and Zidane 360 spins in no time. He will have us playing the ball on the deck and not hoofing it out to a forward Guidolin styles.

Lorenzo, I think the problem is that Zampa/Colantuono have too much faith in Liverani. The guy is a pretty good player but just so slow. Watching him with Fiorentina last year was fucking painful. There would be tons of space for them to counter with Mutu or Santana and Liverani would just slow play up and spread the ball around. We have the speed up front to hit teams so badly on the break they won’t know what happened. Having Liverani is kinda like having a Super Guana because he doesn’t play defense and he’s slow. I just wish we woulda signed Cigarini insteead.

he doesn’t play defense and he’s slow. => Word ricci.
To play Liverani an interditore to do the dirty work in the midfield is required, meaning Miggy has to be there all the time.

Lorenzo, I’m afraid even if we get 10 Suazos and Militos, it wouldn’t be much of a use without our midfield issues fixed.

kat & ricci – THAT’S WHAT I’M SAYIN! Exactly!!! We got PLENTY of attackers who can FINISH…IF they’re given the ball!

As for your words on Liverani, ricci, any of my previous posts from earlier on in this transfer season during the negotiations for Liverani would echo the current sentiments. He’s too old and slow. And if it were down to it, we should’ve never got rid of Corini. Ugh.

At least Zampa is thinking somewhat more clearly…he’s ending the whole “Floccari” nonsense by saying that Budan is worth 2 Floccaris. Ok, good. Now go out and get a MIDFIELDER who can do more than win the ball!

Maybe Zampa isnt throwing th name of real target around because he doesnt want any competition like he usually gets when naming a transfer target

We’ll be doing an Amauri again this season. August 31, I can already see the headlines: ‘Daniele De Rossi leaves crappy team for Palermo.’
