Genoa - Palermo: Preview
By: Steven | November 3rd, 2007Saturday November 03, 2007
Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Genova
Squad Status
Palermo
Miccoli’s out again with the calf injury, and Bresciano isn’t healed either. Migliaccio is out as well, which means that the only baldy in the midfield we have left is Guana. Cavani will probably replace Miccoli up front.
Probable Line-up
Fontana; Zaccardo, Biava, Barzagli, Capuano; Diana, Simplicio, Guana, Caserta; Cavani, Amauri
Genoa
Papa Waigo is still injured, which is a good thing, but his replacement Julio Cesar Leon is having the time of his life. Probably no Di Vaio either, as he’s having a lot of problems settling it this season.
Probable Line-up
Rubinho; Konko, Bovo, Lucarelli; Rossi, Paro, Juric, Danilo; Leon, Borriello, Sculli
Categorical Matchup
Goalie- Genoa: Rubinho is one of the best keepers in Serie A at the moment, although he’s not completely flawless. He had to turn around 4 times on wednesday, so maybe his confidence is broken, but I give him the benefit of the doubt over Old Man Fontana.
Defense- Palermo: Genoa’s got Lucarelli and Bovo, aka ‘The Man Whe Shouldn’t Have Sold’, but they’re still playing a 3-man defense after getting asswhooped by Inter. Zaccardo will probably return in the Palermo-defense, but on the other hand Capuano and Biava will also be there. Still i’m going for the Rosanero.
Midfield- Palermo: Definitely not our best midfield-combination, but with Bresciano injured and Jankovic sucking away wednesday, is all we got. Except for…Brienza! Seriously Stefano, give the kid a chance! He did well on wednesday, and he’s next to Fontana the most experienced one. Let’s just hope he’s not gonna start Tedesco again…
Forwards- Genoa: Seriously…Borriello - Sculli - Leon versus Amauri - Cavani. On paper i’d say Pink, but lookin’ at the last couple of matches…Grifone all the way.
Final Analysis
It’s been 45 years since both teams last meeting, and Palermo never won away to Genoa. In ‘62, the match ended 5-0. Time to turn history around, and beat the bastards. Both teams need a win to get out of trouble, so there will be a lot of defending and fouls.
Prediction
Very close and boring game, lucky goal from far out by either Cavani or Simplicio. 0-1.

I’m hoping for a big game out of Caserta. He does tend to make some good runs through the defense beating a couple of people so let’s pray for a few more of those. I’m also hoping for a huge game out of Cavani after everyone was saying he did nothing last game. He’s my favorite player on Palermo. I wouldn’t mind seeing Diana out of the lineup and a 4-3-3 with Brienza, Cavani, Amauri.
FORZA PALERMO!

what a great on edge game, the offence was awsome the defense was a little shakie but in all good game and im pretty sure the last genoa goal was offsides.
i hate genoa
btw this might sound crazy but i kinda like Cavani starting instead of Miccoli even know he injured they should try that out next week as well him and amauri worked really well together and Simplico was a fucking beast this game even though i would of enjoyed a win it was a great game.Posted from

Just saw the post game interview with Colantuono…I’ve changed my mind about him. He made all the right subs in this game, and for all the injuries to his squad he made the best formation he could. For all his fire and passion on the bench he was somewhat soft spoken.
p.s. Foschi running onto the field - my head almost exploded, I couldn’t stop laughing.

This was a fantastic game! But what happened those last 5 minutes of the first half? Genoa must’ve had about 95% possession. Tomorrow, big review.
Can you say ‘Brienza’?
