Future Talk: The Simon Kjaer Story
By: Steven | March 27th, 2009
We always expected Edy Cavani to turn out as our greatest asset for the future, but ever since we signed Simon Kjaer (pictured above, to the left of The Joker) we know better. Kid’s only nineteen, but is already turning out to be one of the most talented defenders in all of Europe. Big teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, Milan and Juve are said to be chasing the Blonde Bombshell, and it seems like just a matter of time until he leaves Palermo to pursue a career that will most likely lead up to the biggest teams in Europe.
The reason I’m writing is, is because of a copy of Tuttosport that landed on my workdesk this morning. (Why do girls in stockings and high heels never land there…) Our beloved Juventus-paper brought an article on Kjaer’s future at Juve. It seems like this is the offer that Juve is preparing: Juve would be prepared to offer the 12 million that Kjaer’s agent mentioned as the asking price. They would also let Kjaer stay in Palermo for one more year on loan, and really take him after the end of the 09-10 season. Added to that would be a one year loan of promising midfielder Albin Ekdal.
I know this is just a rumour, but as there’s no Serie A this weekend and these rumours seem to pop up a lot lately, I wanted to ask you guys about your opinion on this. Here goes mine.
I say no. And there’s several reasons for that. First of all, 12 million isn’t enough. Let’s not forget that we got 20+ for Amauri, a guy of 30 years old with a bad knee, brought in as a sub for Trez. Kjaer is young, he’s amazingly talented and hasn’t suffered any serious damage yet. Second, I don’t like the whole loaning Ekdal thing. Kid’s got a bright future ahead of him, just like Lanzafame, plays the same position (I think) as Lanzafame, and see what happened to Lanzafame. Added to that, Ekdal is unproven. He hasn’t rocked Bari for a year.
The last thing I wanted to point out about this rumour, is that this might be exactly the right time to start building our very own legend. Selling Toni and Amauri was logical: these guys had a certain age, did well for the team and their money was needed to build the squad. Now, as we are building the squad, it would be a shame to sell one of our most important assets. At only 19, this kid could be a part of our rush to Serie A’s top four. I mean, the combination of proven and experienced players like Bovo, Moris and Micco and the young guns Edy, Kjaer, Abel and Mortadella (yeah, I like that name better) could be the base for success. I’d love for Kjaer to become this team’s leader for years to come: playing his entire career here, and then getting a staff job. I know I’m dreaming, but at some point, you have to single out one player that could lift your team to another level and NOT treat him like merchandise.
Do I have too much time on my hands? Maybe. Does the thought of possibly losing Kjaer get me all emotional? Maybe. All I know is that I don’t want to see the Danish Dynamite go…

I think Lanzafame isnt going to be serie A ready till atleast 25. He needs to develop mentally. I am no ready to give up on him he has skill and with all the future strikers we have we dont have supporting striker. In a few years he will fit in nicely behind cavani/cani/levan/abel

Lanza got like 10 2 minute sub appearances for us … kid wasnt even given the slightest chance what so ever .. it was pretty shamefull. Especially when that dick succi kept getting on.

Id drop Bovo for kjaer. Easily. Bovo can be reckless, lacks concentration sometimes, gives away alot of fouls, and although can whomp the ball better than moris and kjaer, he hasnt the composure on the ball kjaer has. Id like to see Lanza back, it confuses me why he is at Bari, we need him. We can switch to width with him and balzaretti on the flanks and savini is a very defensive left back so can fill in there. we do need a plan b, for us to win a game miccoli, liverani and simplicio HAVE to be playing well, if one has a bad game, we draw or lose, if all have bad games, we lose. I hate to admit it, but liverani is the linchpin in this team, simplicio is the creative spark, and miccoli is our bit of magic when all else fails.

Thank you. Most of the people on this board have called him immature, weak, raw, whatever.

He doesnt even start for Bari though…. today he was subed in with 4 mins left in the game and it was mostly likely to just waste time. sooo if hes not good enough for even Bari why would we want to see him at Palermo next season?
btw… Bari Pisa game was shit lolPosted from

If Balla thought he was ready for A or had great potentials as you guys all claim, he would’ve played Lanzafame more. However in reality, as Giovanni has mentioned before me, he’s not even a fixed starter at Bari.

Kat, he is 21 I think you need to lighten up.

Lanzafame just has no confidence. You saw in when he came on to play for us. He has a good future. You guys forget that Italian players dont mature till 25+ we rarely have any Messi’s that are amazing at 21.

Not necessarily. We all know how Italian coaches frequently snub youth players, despite all their quality. Given Lanzafame didn’t fit exactly in the mediano midfield or up top, it’s not surprising Ballardini wouldn’t play him much.
He didn’t start the other day because he’s had some fitness issues recently, and when he arrived at Bari this January he was in mediocre shape. Last year he was in the first-team though, so I wouldn’t discount his talents on the last month or two.

Lanzafame wasn’t ready and still isn’t

Not saying he’s ready for a spot in the starting team by any means, but yeah, he could help out. Succi played more than him for God’s sakes.

I’m as merry as a grig at the moment. Thanks for caring.
“..Italian coaches frequently snub youth players, despite all their quality.”
How would you then explain Kjaer and Mchedlidze, who btw are both 2 or 3 years his junior?Posted from

ricci check out what I said about Banega at the Napoli Offside.
Mchedlidze? Like, the guy who has started one match all season? C´mon. And Kjaer? Yeah, he´s done well, but not all young players can start out with a bang.

Giving a starting spot to a 18 year-old kid with near zero experience in top division itself i’d say is a pretty daunting movement. Mchedlidze has had on-going physical problems this season that hindered him from being regularly featured. And let’s not forget Cavani too, who is 22 class of 87 just like Lanzafame. So your theory of Balla snubbing him for his mere age doesn’t really hold ‘cuz it simply isn’t true.

Italian coaches always shelter Italian players Lanzafame is going to be just fine you cant count some one out at 21.

Like I said before and other said .. we used succi .. there was no excuse not to play lanza .. if a pile of crap serie c1 player gets in our team we can rely on lanzafame or atleast give him a chance. Its like this swiss kid we got now .. he wont get a game and insted tedesco gets in infront of him even out of position.
Our problem is always the same .. talk big targets then wait until the last hour of transfer window and sign crap while hanging onto the same old crap. Yet again this summer we need to retire and sell some dead wood. Agliardi and Dellafiore will return and we need to sell them. Bresciano needs to fuck off away to the epl .. guana needs to let go and move to some bottom team or serie b team where he should be playing. Tedesco should show some respect and retire… Succi? He can fuck fright off to some desolate corner of the planet where he will offer his oral services as a rentboy .. maybe he will have better finishing skills in that profession.
Sabatini should be sacked .. Zamparini should walk if he cant get us our stadium and invest that cash we have made him.
Amen

Sabatini had done fuck all for us, so gay

One positive note is that our management finally seem to have decided to sell Aussie this summer since there still hasn’t been talk about his contract renewal. It’s baffling that it took them this long to make up their mind.

Gigi dont agree on HDF he could be valuable off the bench. You know moris or kjaer are going to be out soon.

Sorry ragazzi, i haven’t seen a full Plaermo match this year so i was just wondering why Kjaer is so good. Is he skillful? impossible to get past? Does he take players on? In short, if you could compare him to one player who would it be?

I agree with not getting rid of Kjaer. He’s a great player and he’s still young. He could help Palermo out a lot in the future.
There was an article someplace that said the kids in Palermo are crazy about him, because he gives them someone to look up to. He shows them that you can be young and play for a big team.
