Friuli Hangover

So you’d think a two week international break would be enough to get your team back on track, and destroy a small Northern Italy-side…how wrong can one be. Maybe everybody on the squad was confused by the Amauri-rumours? All jokes aside: Palermo were crap yesterday. We were lucky Udinese kept their non-scoring spirit alive, otherwise Colantuono’s boys would have returned to Sicilia without any points.

More ranting, raving and images after the jump…

I don’t know about you guys, but I feel that there’s only one person to blame for another lame game: Stefano Colantuono. You’re playing one of the weakest defences in Serie A, and still you start with a 4-5-1. We all know Amauri isn’t Mutu: Amauri needs someone to launch him. Bresciano only gave two or three final passes to Amauri: one of them resulted in a goal, another was narrowly saved by Handanovic. If you put Cavani alongside Amauri, you’ll have a completely different attack. Hell, why not even put Brienza on the field? At least he’s eager to show something, compared to the Big Bald Baby. Colantuono’s got a fine pair of strikers, but he still tries to let Palermo play Guidolin-Del Neri-Pappadopoulo style. Udinese got 17 shots at goal, Palermo 6. Guess where the problem lies. Next week Inter’s coming over, and they’ll be here at the worst possible time. Maybe we can give them the three points up front, wrapped in some nice wrapping paper.

“Udinese had a few chances, but so did we at the start and most of theirs were created on the counter-attack when we had already taken the lead.”

So what, you dumbass…remember what happened against Mlada, trying to gamble on that one goal-advantage? Remember Empoli? You’re coaching a team that’s not satisfied with Intertoto-football this year, try to live up to the expectations or get the hell out. Carletto is feeling the pressure at Milan, maybe Zamparini’s just crazy enough to go for him on the bench.

Here’s the game summary:

And a post-game interview with the only man who’s still trying to keep us in 6th place:

I apologize for the negativism in this post, but I’ve had it with their lame-ass performances.

I agree that Amauri needs that set up man. Cavani is not him, however. Im not even sure that guy is on the roster.

However, saying that, Miccoli is a spark plug that helps the Rosanero play in the attacking side more. Amauri can’t hurt the other team when he is playing defense. We need Miccoli and that X-factor now

Colantuono has not inspired that beautiful free-flowing Palermo play I used to look at in awe. The players already look jaded on the pitch.

The lack of depth in the squad is so damn obvious and we were lucky AGAIN to get away with a draw.

I can’t see this side making the top 6 at all this year. And a change of coach won’t do it for us - I mean anybody they get at this time of the season will have minimal impact.

The midfield and defence are in dire need of a shake up!

By the way, i think KJ is spot with the need for that X-factor.

I think this would come in the form of an African/French player from Ligue 1 to really inject something new into the rosaneri!

Remember our last African X-factor? I don’t think we don’t need someone who’s already in the picture, we need someone who used to be an immense talent but hasn’t got a lot of playtime the last couple of years. I’m thinking Vucinic, Forssell, Chevanton…
