Derby Degli Empty Seats

By: Steven | November 28th, 2007

Long live the Lega Calcio. Twenty guys and girls, average age 127, combined football intelligence none. This sorry bunch has decided that the Derby Della Sicilia will be played without tifosi of the biggest Sicilian team. No Palermitani in the stands of the Stadio Massimino, let’s hope those eleven pink shirts will shut up every single Elefantino. Preview coming up later, trying to deal with the utter incompetence of Italy’s football league right now.

It seems to be their knee-jerk reaction all season long. Banish the away fans, close the curva’s, play behind closed doors…anything in order to avoid having to face the hard truth of why these matches are considered to be a threat in the first place? Sad. Napoli tifosi were barred from going to Palermo and the sides share a good relationship so who the hell knows what Lega Calcio is doing.

Not only that, but they’re severely restricting ticket sales to the home side, too. There are going to be about 241 people there.

That’s still about five times the amount of home tifosi in the Olimpico in Torino.

Bye Bye!!!! Search youtube videos for this kid…at 19 years old he is probably the best attacking player in the Brazilian league at the moment.

Bresciano has been as good as gone since the beginning of the season…and he’s played like it as well.

I rarely trust anything coming from tribalfootball as they’re notorious for false information. However, THIS story has been all over Italian sites - including trustworthy ones. RENATO AUGUSTO is the real deal. The fact that we can snag him over top European clubs is awesome. Man, just picture this guy along with some of our other young prodigies (Cavani, Jankovic)!!!

Cossentino of the primavera just got called up for the Under-20 squad for their Quattro Nazioni tourney in December.

Plus, 12 mil. is alot better than what they were previously asking for Augusto (25 mil…really?!?) haha.

Haha I remember that Lorenzo…something like 18 million pounds they were asking. He’s also linked to Chelsea as well so let’s not get our hopes too high on this kid. But like you said, if he came, with the young talent we have…unreal.

Jankovic seems to play wonderful for his country but everytime I see him play for us it’s a bit disappointing. He’s definitely more of a central player and with Simplicio being the playmaker he gets pushed out wide. I’d like to see how Guidolin uses him because everyone knows he’s got the talent to play at a very high level. Guidolin does love to pack the central midfield, so maybe he gets a larger role. As long as Diana stops starting I’ll be happy.

Well, lets not get carried away with all the transfer talk…We still are a month away and anything can happen from now until the end of the transfer window. As for the sites on which I saw this bit of news was Tuttomercatoweb, Calciomercato and a few Brasilian papers have been reporting it. Plus, Stadionews has been on again off again concerning him - and the message board has his name coming up more and more frequently these days.

This kid is the real deal - Lulinha prolonged his contract with Corinthians…Bayern Monaco (Munich) claims to have signed the brasilian defender Breno…but everyone is saying that Renato Augusto is the best out of all the brasilian exports. Youtube this kid. He’s amazing.

I don’t really trust Stadionews on transfer rumours. According to them, Fosschi was in Rio to sign Lulinha, but nothing happened. I’d love to see Renato come, but I still find it a little hard to believe that we’d beat teams like Man U and Chelsea. Cossentino is a big talent, looking good for the future, and I also believe that Sirigu is going to earn a starting place within 1-2 years…

Renato Augusto..Man, I don’t know. It seems like a gamble. I’d rather we went after someone proven in serie a. As for reserve GK, I think De Sanctis could be a good alternative.

    Steven -
Eh, I don’t mind Stadionews…they’re more reliable than say, TribalFootball. Sure, they were off base on Lulinha but I don’t recall having seen them say we were signing him - I thought they threw his name in there with that of Renato Augusto and Breno as players they were tracking over there. Yea, it does seem hard to believe that Palermo would have the upper hand over teams like Chelsea & Man U. However, we were able to nab Cavani when big teams were after him. Same thing with Jankovic… Both players were being tracked by big clubs but in the end, Palermo could promise them more than the big clubs could: Major playing time.

Kat - I don’t think he’s as big of a gamble as you think. This kid is legit…and I agree we need some proven Serie A players, but at the same time for a club like ours, we need young stars with good potential. Augusto very much fits this description.

As for a defender for the upcoming window, what about Modesto from Reggina??

Don’t get me wrong Lorenzo, I love Stadionews :) it’s just that sometimes they start throwing around names.
