Assessing the Carnage
By: lorenzo | March 31st, 2008
Fresh off an absolutely crushing defeat (of which I still haven’t gotten over) that we couldn’t watch, it is time to look at where Palermo stands in the eyes of our beloved Maurizio Zamparini.
First, what is there to say about the game? It looked all but headed towards a draw before Hamsik proved how dangerous he is (faux-hawk and all) and came thru with a goal right before the death, rendering Palermo another grand total of 0 points. When was the last time we even won…scratch that…tied!?
Well, Zamparini just got done addressing Stadionews and here is what he had to say:
On what kind of team he saw yesterday against Napoli:
“I’ve given my compliments to Colantuono and to the squad because yesterday I saw a squad of men.” (Not to be confused with, of course, these little girls). “Right now, however, luck has turned its back on us and each incident goes against us.”
On “Emo”tino’s performance:

“When I saw Cossentino enter the game yesterday, I was overjoyed. I felt sorry for Zaccardo but I was very happy for Cossentino. For a long time, I have asked for the addition of our young players into the first team. One of Guidolin’s vices was that he always played the same men even when one of them was glaringly out of shape, or better yet, played on one leg.”
WOW, Zampa…you think!? I’ve seen stray dogs who have more control with the ball than some of our players (yes, I’m looking at YOU Guana).
On the Palermo supporters:
“The public is staying close to the team, sustaining them in this delicate moment and isn’t booing them. I ask the tifosi to also stay close to the players as was done by the Napoli tifosi yesterday which truly helped their team score in the 92nd minute. What do I say to our tifosi? The society is has been working to prepare a very competitive group for next season, we will improve the areas that have performed below their expected capabilities.”
Hopefully, this means that several buffoons will be leaving the squad in June…first and foremost THIS one:

And, finally, on the upcoming match against Rubentus:
“I’m convinced that Sunday against Juventus, Palermo will play a great match. Percentage of victory? I’ll say 60% for Palermo and 40% for the bianconeri.
Zampa…unfortunately, just because you managed to correctly proclaim a loss against Napoli, doesn’t mean you are now the Nostradamus of Palermo Calcio. After this current run of results (or lack thereof), you think we can beat (not draw)…let me say that again…BEAT Juventus?! Hey, if you end up right on this one, I will ship you some fresh arancini straight from my nonna’s cucina…
I’m sure Steven will have a preview for the upcoming match against Rubentus…but in the mean time, I’ll leave you guys with this little gem:
Definitely worth watching the whole way through!!! Ciccio!!!! Uno di noi!!!!
FORZA PALERMO!

Bravo, Lorenzo. I’m happy to see where this page has gone. Before we had spotty bloggers at best, now we have a backup.

I will support Palermo always, but I need to see a turn around with them really soon. I’m glad to know the supporters still support them though.

Thanks guys…it’s my first post. I’m helpin Steven out because he’s obviously got plenty of other things to deal with. Not to mention that there are other blogs here that have 2 people, why shouldn’t Palermo be one of them as well?
Between Steven and myself, we’ll have this site buzzing constantly with random news and previews.
FORZA PALERMO!

I am from the Napoli site and I understand how passionate us southerners are about our soccer teambeing one myself who lives and dies with the fate our my beloved Napoli. Listen tough game yesterday but I really believe that you guys are staying in A and will break out of yor funk. You’ve got Jimmy (who in my mind is world class) and way too much talent up front, BUT boy do you guys hate Guana.
I wish you guys the best against the friggin Juventini who make me sick!!! Oh by the way, arancini ROCK!!!!!!Posted from

“who shot the couch suit jackets”!!!! that describes them to a T! hahahahaha
Fortunato - you can’t tell me that Napoli doesn’t have their own “Guana” figure eh? Oh, and we love Jimmy! He’s probably the number one reason why we are not in a relegation spot. that’s scary because it’s so true…
as for the arancini - favorite food ever. they can be a snack, but they can also be a meal…and im telling you, when they’re served up as a meal, they’re softball size, and i can eat a dozen of them. haha

Lorenzo. Napoli has a couple of Guanas…nuff said!!
As a means of pumping you guys up for the Juve game, here is a clip of my most hated player in Serie A. I have hated him since Euro 2000.
Look at this classless ass in action. He is mocking his teammates and the fans with this arsenal of foolish antics.

I’ve only had them the size of baseballs (arancini). And maybe because I love my grandmothers neckbones and meatballs, is the only reason I can, maybe, eat two. Put my father and I up to a table thats full of neckbones, and you’ll see, and hear, the most foulest thing ever.

I’m so jealous of you guys with Sicilian roots. Luckily, I have a girlfirend who has ‘em too.

Steven, you’re not sicilian?. Out of curiosity, why are you pink?

No man, I’m 100% Flemish. Go on and have a laugh. And everyone I meet asks me for this. So here it goes…
In the summer of 2001, I was travelling with my parents trough the North of Italy, Austria and Slovenia. One day, me and my dad went to have a look at the training camp which was held in the town. My dad was a huge Serie A-fan, and I went along. One of the teams there was Palermo, and after a sweet game against a local amateur side, I got the shirt of Davide Bombardini. Since then, the year of the return to Serie B, I’ve been following them.
A couple of years later, the year of the promozione, I met a girl with Sicilian roots, and since then I’ve been nuts about the team. They were the reason I learnt Italian, they were the reason I’ve traveled to Gelsenkirchen, Bergamo and London to watch a football game and they’re the reason I spent way too much money on all things football.
But trust me, these days, I consider myself 40% Sicilian. I can make perfect arancini and Pasta con le sarde, I know the hand gestures and i’m learning Sicilian. Maybe I’m not Sicilian by birth, but I hope that’s okay with yoy guys
Have I lost all credibility now?

Lost credibility!?! Are you serious? You’ve GAINED credibility in my mind. It’s easy for those who aren’t Sicilian to cheer for a top squad in any league…the fact that you chose Palermo over all others (with some good decisions along the way haha), shows your dedication to the team AND I’ll give you that 40% haha.
La Sicilia Siamo Noi!

I agree with Renzo, you could have easily went the typical “glory hunter” route, but you didnt…props my man..Its bad enough some Sicilians support Rubentus

Thanks guys. And as I’ve said before, passion is not about winning titles. it’s about sticking with your team when times are tough.
