All Is Quiet In Austria
By: Steven | July 23rd, 2009No big transfers, no shocking news, no big opponents to play games against, no kids stuffed in the basement by their father/grandfather: it’s all quiet in Austria. But, luckily, rumours are being spread from time to time. And today was such a time: lots of names being thrown around. The reason for that is the following: with the start of Serie A rapidly approaching, Zampa, Zenga and Zabbatini (let’s call them Z3 from now on) would like to strengthen three more positions:
* One central defender. With Moris getting closer and closer to an expat job in Medellin, we need someone to fill the hole he left in the defense. Miggs did well as a back-up, but it’s not his natural position. Bovo and Kjaer is not enough, so Z3 are looking at Lazio’s Cribari once more. He would cost 6 million, and at 29 he still has a lot of good years ahead of him. The second option here is Diego Lugano, the captain of the Uruguayan national team and (if I recall correctly) until a couple of weeks of Fenerbahçe.
* Second position is a back-up to Balzaretti. Mazzotta may still be a little too inexperienced to step up, so we’re looking for a more experienced player that won’t mind being benched. The Argentinean Papa doesn’t want to be benched, but Le Mans’ Ibrahima Camara (ex-Parma) wouldn’t mind. 24 years old, and I’ve seen him do great stuff in Ligue 1.
* Last, but not least, we still need Dzemaili. Problems: Torino want to sell only half, and Zampa told them he only wants him for cash, and he wants all of him. So this will probably not be solved in the next couple of days.
So, how do you guys see this? To Cribari or not to Cribari? Lugano, washed up player or good back-up?

just watched the 1st halves of the fiorentina and milan friendlies i have to say they both look terrible. fiorentina need at least a quality hardman midfielder and top class defender, whereas milan are fucked unless they sign someone quick.
the only thing that will stop teams taking their champions league spaces are the refs.
dzemaili looks a good player and at that age where they should be producing the goods
the biggest competitor for 4th spot is going to be genoa, they have signed esposito and have nearly signed zapater. their transfer policy is unreal!

Napoli have an explosive team but I feel like they have alot of players that will be out position next season. Zuniga, Maggio, Hamsik, Lavezzi where are they going to fit?
The top 4 is going to be extremely different next season. hopefully we can be one of them.

Anyone think Genoa can challenge for the Scudetto?

fuck i just had a look at their squad list, seriously who is charge of their transfers???
kharja, bolzoni, tomovic, floccari, troest, palacio, zapater, esposito and crespo??? plus they have andrea signorini, gianlucas son, and a truckload of other apparently quality primavera coming through!
add to that bocchetti (could become better than chiellini), criscito, sokratis, jankovic, vanden borre, and palladino who knows maybe not this season but in the near future they could be challenging for the scudetto!

giro, the best thing about all the signings that have been made by marino is that we have finally got strength in depth. personally this is the formation i would use (if donadoni were to use a 4-3-3);
de sanctis
maggio-santacroce-cannavaro-dossena
zuniga-cigarini-hamsik
lavezzi-hoffa-quaqliarellagood balance, strong defence, good wingbacks, shit hot midfield and a stupidly fast attack with quags shooting from everywhere

hehe@ parma making good signings in Bojinov and Pannucci. One is like 80 yrs old and the other plays about 5 games a season. Not great .. well done guidolin.
Genoa will do well … Palermo will do well .. Napoli will do well .. Milan are going to drop .. just watch it. They have been embarassing italian football in their friendlies. If they didnt have pirlo theyd be a mid table team.

There was nothign wrong with palettas fitness … His team wanted more money then what we agreed. Sucks for him but im happy we didnt sign a player with a dodgey fitness record.

Alex I agree you guys bought some good players. But Hamsik isnt a Cm he is a attacking Mid. Maggio is more of a RM then a RB. Zuniga isnt a midfielder he is a Right wing back. And I have never been sold on Dossena. I hope you guys do well its going to take some time for your team to gel.
Im happy with our mercato were adding talented youth but keeping the core from last season.
And Panucci on Parma is going to help us out. He can tutor HDF.

zuniga has all the minerals to become a lethal midfielder and can play there.
maggio is a right wing back, and hamsik played in midfield last season as the link up guy although he does lay quite far up the field. its all moot though as it looks like donadoni is using the 3-5-2 which i fucking despise.
zenga going to use the 4-3-1-2 like last season? with pastore behind miccoli and cavani? i could see you ruining some teams with that trident. what is it with sabatinis penchant for foreign players as well? whys he trying to turn you into internazionalelazio??

de sanctis; santacroce, cannavaro, campagnaro; maggio, gargano, zuniga, hamsik, dossena, lavezzi, quagliarella
thats how i think the team will look next season not bad…

Roma losing to some random team in EL qualifying at home.

Wait, what? I thought it was already understood that Roma had the EL in the bag…

Hehe, that ‘random team’ is AA Ghent, from Belgium. It’s about 20 km from here. And guess who’s got a ticket for the Anti-Roma stand at the Jules Otten stadium next week

As much as roma piss me off im looking for Italian teams to take some european trophies this year so if they do well good. Lucky they won 3-1 in the end.

lol and milan lost another friendly .. galliani better wake up to reality.

we are trying to swap Fozzy for Cribari + Money or Radu + Money. No idea what to think .. id rather we just took cash for Simplicio .. those 2 defenders would be no better then Bovo.

Seems that Torino is ready to sell us Dzemaili and Rubin (to back up Balzaretti)…

Haha soft penalty and a free kick to take them forward…

I hope we get Dzemaili soon. Every day that we don’t have him I get worried.

I hope we keep Simplicio and just get Lugano. I think he wants in the area of 3 mill a year. But if you think about it he is on a free transfer in 2 years we will have paid him as much as it cost to buy Cribari. So in a 3 year run they would both cost us about 9 million. Lugano 3 million a year for 3 years and Cribari 6 mill transfer and close to 1 million a year in salary. But with Lugano you get a better player.
Dzemaili would be awesome on our team. I kinda compare him to Marchiso can pass and put a tackle in.

Problem is: if Lugano gets 3 million a year, Bovo will want that too. And then Kjaer. And Cass. And Balza. And that’s when you go Fiorentina and get put back to C2.

really dzemaili is that good? from what ive seen of marchisio hes going to be better than de rossi just not as physical. makes you wonder why they bought melo
