A little bit of movement in the Palermo Camp
By: Giuseppe | June 16th, 2007
I’m not dead, really. This has been a really quiet week as far as Palermo is concerned. Martha over at the Italy OFFSIDE site has accurately reported that Barzagli is in talks with Fiorentina and Juventus, but would rather go to the Viola, while Zamparini, ever a man of class, is trying to push him towards Juventus. I personally favor the Juventus trade because it could land us with some great and talented young players.
I know NONE of us are happy about the Azzurri international Barzagli departing from Palermo, but word on the street is Palermo heads are about to battle the Celtic for Sampdoria standout, and azzurri midfielder Gennaro Delvecchio. Delvecchio doesn’t have many international caps, but he had 31 appearances and 5 goals during the 06/07 season. It’s also impressive he’s the second footballer to headbutt Mattarazzi.
This rumor appears to be pretty solid, new coach Colantouno is a close friend of Delvecchio and has been his coach at three prior clubs. Colantouno is determined to keep him in Italy and has already spoken to Zampa about putting in an offer for him. Sampdoria coach said that if Delvecchio wants to move he won’t stand in his way. Looks like the Celtic will need more than some lucky charms to get Gennarro.
I favor this trade a LOT, i’ve stated time and again we need to pick up some reliable, strong, midfielders. I think the addition of Delvecchio would be exceptional, ESPECIALLY after the loss of Corini.

Actually I think that’s Sampdoria saying their new coach will not stand in Delvecchio’s way if he wants the move. Delvecchio’s all over the British press today talking up the move. I’m intrigued by the prospect of Delvecchio and Donati coming to Celtic Park, its good to know that someone who’s really seen Delvecchio play rates him highly.
