A Few Personal Thoughts On The Juve Game
By: Steven | February 24th, 2009The reason I wasn’t around much for the last couple of days, was mainly because I had to reflect on what happened last sunday. I don’t care how ‘teenage drama queen angst’ this may sound, but it’s the truth. Like most of you, I’ve spent most of my sundays watching this team. Unlike most of you, I’m in the same timezone as Italy, and when I want to watch the game that means canceling other sunday afternoon plans, such as playing matches with my American Football team or going to see my best friend play 2nd division football. Kat will know what I’m talking about. And I don’t mind that. But there comes a time when you have to face the decision: does this team still deserve my attention? After the total suckage of our midfield last week and the lack of options from the bench, I just needed to reflect on things.
And after three days of thinking, I realised that I just couldn’t stand seeing the love of my life every sunday afternoon. I realised that, although I sometimes want to throw my TV out of the window after another missed Succi-chance, this team has given me so much joy in the last 10 years that it would feel like betraying everything I stand for. Don’t get me wrong: I would never give up on this team. I’d go to Eccelenza and back for them. I was just wondering if it was still worth it dedicating my sundays to the rosanero. And the answer is yes. You guys must know what I’m talking about when I say that this team sometimes gives you moments that nothing in the world can give you. I’m talking about the Cassani screamer, the promosso, beating Schalke at home, seeing old Nonno score twice against Napoli, sending Milan back home on an icecold wednesday evening with a 3-1.
This team has become such a big part of my life, that it would be impossible to take a little distance. Non sono nato Palermitano, ma sono diventato Palermitano.
This said, here’s a little video to remind you guys of the weekend to come. And to thank you for sticking around all this time. Feel the goosebumps when Fillipini scores…

Steven, great post. I only wish that Zampa could read this post and stop screwing around with our hearts and minds.
I know exactly how you feel brother. Most of the time I skip playing Sunday morning footy to watch this team, only to see them draw 0-0 in Reggio Calabria and get thoroughly outplayed in the process.
Palermo is one of the things I love though. I watch many calcio games on the weekend, but none give me the excitement/joy/frustration of Palermo.
Keep doing what your doing man. You’re a great writer and this group of fans def need you.

Man, we should switch schedules. In the US, all my Sunday plans (soccer, etc) are like 1-7ish, and I do nothin at nights.

Cant wait for the derby this weekend. Until then, I’m going to enjoy these Champions League games. I hope at least Juve can still shut those English pirates up..

Well written Steve. It’s strange that this last game against Juve seems to really have brought up a lot of emotion for us Palermo fans.
For me it was the fact that Palermo so often do put their heart and sould into their game. The game against Juve hurt because we busted our guts and we were at home; but were beaten by a clinical team who really displayed little emotion.
In fact, this emotion is a really Siciliano/Palermitano trait. Us rosanero fans feel too much. We are not clinical. And so games such as this break our hearts. Juve was a cold hearted bitch on Sunday. Palermo was the hard working team that just couldn’t catch a break.
It’s time to toughen up a bit. When we get half a chance we gotta put that ball into the back of the fucking net!!
Siamo tutti nella nord ….come una bomba lo stadio esploderà…. palermo qua..palermo la …palermo è forte e vincerà..alè alè alè alè alè …

i think it’s just been a sobering reality the last two yrs. my first year in sicily, we made serie a. year two, probably the best performance from a newly-promoted team in a very long time. year 3 was disappointing, but calciopoli seemed to put us in the champions league…until milan’s bullshit appeal. year 4, moved to the states but still came back every x-mas and summer to see my family. tied in the scudetto race with inter going into november, champions league spot almost assured. then came that dreadful day in siena, as i watched in sicily as amauri winced in pain as he came of the field…
for three and a half years it felt like nothing could go wrong. cant say the same since then. it’s a sobering reality

Arab: “We’re the better side!”
Lo Monaco: “Oh yeah? We’ll see about that.”
Ah the tension..The Derby spirit is up in the air.
Good thing they gagged that clown Zenga, tho’. His blame-it-on-the-refs antics were getting old.Posted from

from the juve blog. few truer words have been spoken
They are not relegation strugglers, this is a solid team with a bright coach. Their results against the big teams this year has been impressive, defeating Milan, Roma, and Juventus. (yet losing to Inter, thanks, asshats) If they could keep that kind of mentality against teams like Reggina, this team would be pushing for a CL spot.
keep the faith, ragazzi. a few more players and a bottle of aderrol before taking on relegation strugglers, and we’re a strong side

Picciotti!! Why the f are we so quiet leading up to the most important game of the season?! Time to show everyone that Catania belongs in the Mediterranean Sea instead of Sicilia!! Do I need to get Johonna from the Inter blog to come over here and tell you all of her thoughts about Catania?? Even Liverani is too clean to live there – and he wipes his culo with his hand!!! Let’s go! La Sicilia vera siamo noi!!!!!!
