Stadio La Favorità, Palermo

I warriors, brigate rosanero, siamo forti e vinceremo!

Preview
Hmz…familiar situation yet again. Two losses when we deserved at least two draws, and back the situation where another loss might really mean the end of our European dreams. Our season is like the weight of Kirstey Alley. So, Ballardini needs to get the guys back in one line for the Derby Delle Due Sicilie. As for the opposition, they couldn’t come at a better time. 4 losses in their last 5 away matches, not a win in Serie A since january 11th and trying to become the new Inter by buying everything and everyone that looks and smells argentinian.

Reja’s men have switched roles with last year’s Genoa: while the Grifoni are competing for place 4-6, Napoli is struggling to keep in touch with the subtop. And that’s where Palermo comes in. Because, as you might now, we’re in the exact same situation as the Etnei. And that is why this match is going to be so interesting: neither team can be happy with a draw, so both Nippley and we will have to pull the attacking card.

Squad Status

Palermo

Budan is still watching ‘Quelli che…Il Calcio’ from home, gobbling down supersized Royale with Cheese-menus, and last week’s surprise Levan is out for a month. Added to that is the absence of Fabio Liverani. The good news is that Miccolino is back, after taking care of his ingrowing pubic hairs.

Probable Lineup:
Amelia; Cassani, Carrozieri, Bovo, Balzaretti; Bresciano, Migliaccio, Nocerino; Simplicio; Miccoli, Cavani.

Napoli

The fine fellows over at the Napoli Offside promised to do a preview, so I guess you’ll get more info there. Quick summary: Iezzo injured, Mannini banned, Datolo not cleared for competition yet.

Probable Lineup:
Navarro; Santacroce, Cannavaro, Contini; Maggio, Blasi, Gargano, Hamsik, Vitale; Lavezzi, Denis.

Categorical Matchup

I Heart Man City vs. Argentine 1: Palermo. There’s a reason why this guy is Nippley’s third goalie. I mean, do you see us playing Ujkani?

The Complete Package vs. Nice, really nice: Push. In theory, this is our strongest backline, with Balza back on the left, and the Two Towers in the centre. Caroz’ will have to step it up a notch. Napoli’s backline is talented, but with Miccolino and Cavani, three might be not enough.

Bald, Bald, Beard, Brown vs. Superhuman: Napoli. This is one hell of a fine Napoli-midfield. Except for Maggio. And Vitale. Meh, still better than our heap of inconsistent boys from the Southern hemisphere.

Best thing since sliced bread vs. The Argentines: Palermo. I don’t give this prediction a lot, but this one is ours. Cavani is shaping up to become a star, while Lavezzi isn’t performing all that well, and Denis needs to prove himself.

Final Analysis

Losing is not an option. Yeah, I know, I’ve said it about 1524 times already this season. But this is really the game that could end it all. Losing this would mean going to Reggio with no selfesteem whatsoever. Right now, Napoli is a 21-year old, drunk girl, wearing a short skirt, stay-up nylons and high heels, walking trough a dark alley all by herself.

grosso and rossi were the only decent players in a blue shirt last night. Even buffon didnt have a good game in the bag. It was painful. WTF is pepe and di natale doing starting?! Even if di natale is quality you have to go by players club form, HAVE to, and Udinese have been shocking for a matter of weeks. Toni, once again, as much as i love the bloke and he trys his hardest, the luck is always against him in the games that matter. Pirlo is terrible, hes painful on the ball and not to be seen when hes not on it. Id rather see Miggs in there smashing it up! Bovo and Moris should have been in that team, i feel that it will be the italy of old in south africa, completly flop at first hurdle. I dont care what anyone says or thinks, Cassano should start when hes playing at club level, he can do things with the ball no other can.

very true Kat, I agree with that 100%. Need someone occupying that space in the 3/4 area of the pitch. spot on comparison to Guido and Culotuono formations.

Fozz, that last sentence says it all to me. He can do things with the ball nobody else can, he needs to be on the team.

I was reading some interesting things online. It basically said that Lippi would never call Miccoli or Balzaretti b/c of what happened during Calciopoli. Didn’t make sense to me at first but then I read that Miccoli testified against Moggi. We all know that Lippi is Juve through and through, this leads me to believe that Miccoli will never get a call. Balzaretti leaves right after Calciopoli as well. Balzaretti has been in outstanding form for the better part of 2 years now, still no call. My point is…do we really want a NT manager who is gonna be like this? At least with Donadoni you knew everyone had a chance to get a shot with the NT. With Lippi, it seems half of Italy’s elite talent is eliminated just b/c of personal issues.

fair point about Rosina, KJ. I would take him on Palermo in a hearteat, but I just don’t think until he shows that elite form he showed 2 years ago he can be considered.

Rosina would tear it up for Italia….not to mention Palermo…man, he would fill a massive void for us

Yeah, Miccoli was blackballed by Juventus…His term in Portugal was a Napolean-esque banishment

Good point Ricci. Don had excuse of being green; what’s Lippi’s?

Imagine what Don Fabio would be doing with this team by now had he taken over.

Kat, very sad we let Fabio slip away to England.

If Don Fabio has Rooney scoring on a regular basis imagine what he could do with super talents like Miccoli, Rossi et al. Hell, I wouldn’t even put it past him extending the olive branch to Cassano and burying the hatchet for the good of the team. The ultimate winner.

As far as Del Piero goes…that season where they had a problem, didn’t they win the scudetto? The guy is the ultimate pragmatist. If he could win with Guana playing CM for the Azzurri I wouldn’t care. As long as he wins.

Del Piero is probably the worse NT player ever. He makes Pepe look real good. If Lippi is not picking players solely because of his personal relationship he is an idiot.

I think Fabio is going to take England deep in the World Cup. He gets the job done.

I dont .. they always choke and they got whooped by spain today … Italy would have a fine team if Lippi wasnt a moron. He just picks his old mates … Imagine a beast of a cb pairing in Chiellini/Carozierri … nobody would get past. How Cassano isnt in the team while di natale and pepe are is insane. Aquafresca should easily be infront of Gilardino .. Floccari way ahead of Iaquinta … Nocerino has more fight and passion then pirlo or ambrosini could ever show. … Lippi will drag us down. Time to move on and drop the likes of Toni, Cannavaro and Pirlo for something new. Rossi was class!

Floccari IMO should be first in line to get a call up
and Balza has play outstanding and definitely deserves a call up.

lol – still two crap teams playing each other though. you kidding me with that Bradley dude’s second goal? I could’ve blocked that…and I’m a downright, horrible, last choice only goalkeeper.

US Mexico was a horrible game, neither team could string any passes together, Mexico was pitiful for a team with their reputation, and USA’s first goal was scrappy off a corner and bad marking, and the second was horrendous mistake by the goalie, pitiful game really. I can’t believe how overrated Donovan is too, dude sucks.

moving Grosso into midfield and Balzaretti at LB would be insanely smart. 4-4-2 covers the whole field very well. Hell you could prob field De Rossi AND Pirlo in a 4-4-2 as long as your 2 wingers can play defense. G. Rossi as the support striker and big Luca as the prima. Make it happen you cigar chomping bastard.
