Southern Discomfort

What happens when you give up two goals in the first seven minutes? You dig yourself into a big hole. Palermo did well to get out of that hole after drawing level in the 54th – but just after that happened, our ex-captain decided to dig us a new hole.

Midseason Magic

The Dude Abides.
Tell me he’s not worth the trouble. Tell me he can’t lead a team. Tell me he can’t score.
If Miccoli is the heart of this Palermo team, Cavani is its heartbeat. You can set a metronome to this guy’s pace. The man gives his all for the team and for the shirt…and this man isn’t even 23 years old.
El Matador has now taken his scoring tally to eight on the season and better yet, three on the trot. If not for some shoddy refereeing against Samp, that would have been four in three and given Palermo five straight wins. Nonetheless, Cavani has stepped into his own these last couple of games and so has Palermo. The team has taken well to Delio Rossi and he has done well to establish a style of play.
We are now midway through the season and Palermo sits in sixth place – level on points with Fiorentina at 30. About those 30 points…that’s the second best total we’ve had since our return to Serie A. Furthermore, we’re three points off of the coveted fourth place…and third place for that matter. Let me be clear, the season is LONG…but we are in a very good spot. Oh, one other thing, we’re still in the Coppa Italia.
Speaking of the Coppa, there’s a game that interests us and our coach on Thursday. Coppa winners Lazio will be looking to defend their title at the Olimpico. It’ll be an interesting matchup as Lazio is coached by our ex Davide Ballardini who is performing a bang-up job crisis management. Meanwhile, after the Zenga Experiment, we brought in Delio – something which has gone smoother than anyone could have imagined. So, we’re in for another round of tests. I expect both teams to put out stronger than normal lineups for a Coppa fixture. Sure, there might be a reserve here or there, but I have a solid feeling that both teams are earnestly looking to advance. Don’t tell me Rossi doesn’t want to put some extra effort into this match either – the same goes for Balla. Two spurned coaches both looking for a morsel of self-gratification against their former clubs. One result: Fireworks.
Highlights from the Game
Androberto Guaracciolo Award

Seeing as we haven’t given this out in awhile, only one person truly deserves it this week: Cristiano Doni.

Bro, I know your first name is Cristiano…but seriously, even that fairy would give you a D- for that dive.
Forza Palermo!
